Hi everyone,

I was just thinking the other day about how many gorgeous cakes are displayed on this site.
I think it would be a great money maker, and a wonderful opportunity for many cake decorators on here if the owners of the site decided to launch a book highlighting some of the wonderful cakes on here! It could be something like, "Best of Cake Central". This site is that popular, and I bet every member would buy one...I know I would!!
It could even be taken further and broken down: Best of Cake Central: Kids Cakes or Best of Cake Central: Wedding Cakes. I think that this website is popular enough for a publisher to say, "AH-HAH!!" Not only that, but it would give some of us a chance to have our cakes and names in a publication...a great service to our businesses.

So what do you think??

Judging from how big that "post your worst cake" thread has gotten, I'd say a "worst of cake central book" might be better lol. I'd buy it!

Personally, I think I'd be thrilled if one of my favorite cakes got picked (doesn't have to be one of mine).... I think this community is supportive enough of each other to warrant something like a book.... better yet, why not donate procedes to a charity that we all vote on, or a scholarship for an inner city kid who wants to go to culinary school?

what about a list of members ? included in the book ? and right next to their name,
each member can make a short statement about how they feel about CC ? why they like Cake Central and what it has done to their
cake "life" since they joined. icon_smile.gif just a thought

Someone should PM Jackie or Heath and see what's up. I'd hate to see everyone get all worked up for nothing!

Would this book only be for sale to cc members, or to the general public.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but what would a professional cake decorator (totally not me) that is already in business for themselves, feel about someone else making money off thier work (pics, recipes, etc)?

Also, some food for thought.

I would hope people would be adult enough to realize and accept that they may not get highlighted and be ok with that. Of course, it is not a perfect world, so if they've got a problem with it, it is that person's problem...no one else's. HOwever, that should be the least of our worries! I think it would be really cool!!

Thats a great idea except for the fact that we have over 54,000 members...that would be one long book! icon_biggrin.gif

Oh and I totally agree with everything you just said Ellepal!

I would sooo buy this book too icon_smile.gif

Maybe to get past the professionals not wanting their secrets or recipes given out, I'm sure CC would get written permission from anyone whose photos, recipes, etc. are appearing in the book (if there were to be such a book).

Such a good idea twins!!

Luvbakin, I think getting published is the pinnacle of any cake decorators career. I'd be honored if one of my orignal designs were published, and people copying it. It happens to Wendy Kromer, Colette Peters, and all the big names all the time........they are ok with it, because they get the original credit. I agree.....It's a fun idea, and people should not be getting hopes up, just their cakes up!! icon_razz.gif

ellepal, I agree with you, but I'm thinking not everybody feels that way. Some people don't want to share their secrets, and some people don't want to give away anything for free. I would give my pics and recipes in a heartbeat, but I wonder if everyone feels that way. Do you think?

I don't really want to give out too much info on this since the book is still in the development phase, but yes there is a Cake Central Book project being planned.

Essentially it will be a Cake Bible of sorts, pulling from the best and most popular ideas from the community. It will be filled with recipes, tips, techniques, photos, etc. we will not publish anything that a member contributed to the website without specific permission for the book, but basically it is an attempt to consolidate all the best ideas from the website into one resource.

Its going to be a pretty massive thing, so its still a long ways out from publication.

You will know alot more over the coming months as we start reaching out to the community for submissions, ideas, etc.

So, for now, feel free to chat in this thread about it, but keep in mind we probably won't be reading it much as we are not ready to absorb all the feedback yet, eventually there will be a place to discuss it more formally.

Heath...very cool!!! I guess I WAS onto something!! Now if I could only predict the next lottery numbers!! It sounds fabulous, and I think if you do it, get it to Barnes and Noble. Don't just sell it here; get it out in all the bookstores.

Luvbakin'....you read it yourself; no one could be published without consent. No worries! They don't want a lawsuit, believe me!!

That's a relief. I just wouldn't want to get all excited about it, then have it pulled at the last minute cuz someone got into a hissy fit about not being paid for their work.

Heath, I hope you have a large photo section too. I for one will give permission for all my photos to be used.

I agree this would be wonderful! and i'm excited to hear it's in the works, even if it takes longer than we members would like. it'll be like giving birth worth the wait. icon_eek.gif
I was going to say the same about all the members, there's just way too many of us to add us to the book. It will be one big and heavy book. and i personally wouldn't like heavy. Believe me i will be carrying around w/it at all times. I too agree w/being happy for whom ever gets chosen to be part of the book. I have seen so many talented people here and I would be extremely happy for them. in all honesty i really would!! These are the type of people that inspire me and push my cake decorating to go further.

Yippee!!! for this idea.

Only problem would be that then we'd have to pay for what we get now for free. It would be really nice, though. icon_smile.gif
