Is it really no taste? I have a red dinosaur to make for a 6 year old boy on Saturday and really need to know if I should advise his mother to choose another color.

Please help. If there is truly no taste, I will go buy it on my lunch break!

Thanks in advance!!!!

Do you have access to any americolor colors??? These really make the best red icing. If not, I've heard that you can also mix in red coolaide mix to cut down on the amount of color you have to use and to give a nice flavor as well. Hope your cake goes great!

TCP,

I have used it in the past and I have never really noticed a taste from it.

There isn't really a taste with it but the color is a little funny I think, not quite a true red. If you want to use another add a little flavoring in something that will go with the cake flavor, the last time I used a bunch of red I put some peppermint oil in and my 7 year old loved it and he hates red frosting because of the taste.

I still say it tastes...I'm a little extra sensitive to metal though. (You know sometimes when you get a bad fork, and they taste like metal??...) (I hope someone else knows what I mean, or that just sounds crazy...) Anyway, that is what the no taste red tastes like to me even though it's supposed to be no taste. I cringe when people ask for red and usuall ask what their next color preference is...

The trick,

make the red and let it sit.... then add "regular red" to make it red-er.

It does not have a taste, even if you use the whole bottle. I usually start with the no-taste red, then add Christmas red if I am not happy with the shade of red, or if I'm matching a ribbon or something.

Good luck!

Ok, one more question--

I only have access to Wilton's colors. I need to know if it is really called No-taste red or if it is called Red-Red?

I think I am so excited I have confused myself.

It is called No Taste Red. I had to make some red the other day, and I used the no taste w/a little Christmas red thrown in to make it a truer red. I think the Kool-Aid idea is a good one too.

There are 3 Wilton reds:

Red-Red
Christmas Red
Red (no-taste)

exactly as they are listed in the catalog. Have fun!

I use no-taste red too but I always start out with a dark pink icing than add the red (if you look in my photos, that is what I did with Papa Smurf) and you don't have to use as much. Also, letting it sit for a few minutes after you color it will deepen the color also.

The kool aid trick works, but I wouldn't use it to ice an entire cake. The kool aid makes it VERY tart, and I can't imagine using a lot of it at once.
