What Is The Best Way To Attach A Fondant Rope To A Bc Cake?

I am trying to ease myself into using fondant....I am scared to death of it. I am making a stacked two tier cake and would like to put fondant rope scalloped around the side of each layer with a candy shell kind of fastening each upsweep around the cake...is this possible? Will it stick, do I have to do something special? I could practice my BC rope effect but I was really hoping to use fondant.

it will partly depend on how heavy the rope is. If it is heavy, you could secure it at the top with a skewer attached to your shell? With instructions to remove the skewers.
