Hello All,
I am decorating a cake in the morning that is going to have dots on all 4 teirs. My question is, I am planning to make the dots out of buttercream and just do the dotting on the cake, but at the cake store I buy my supplies from they have like these edible white sugar dot/pearl things. I wanted to know what you guys prefer using and if so any good tips? If anyone has used the edible dot things, could you send me a pic so I can see what it looked liked? Also how do you apply those edible pearl things without messing up the icing on the cake. Thanks for all your tips and pics if you have any.

I bought them, but never used them..........I make my own edible pearls from fondant.........the ones I bought were because I thought I didn't have enough home made, but then after trying one, and it was quite hard, I was concerned with elderly people trying to eat them and breaking teeth, etc. So, no haven't used them..........you could also use piping gel for dots.........that's what alot of people use for the swiss dots.
I haven't used those, but when I use silver or gold dragees, I put a dot of icing on the cake (same color as the cake) and put the dragee on with tweezers.
I tend to only use the really hard ones in the borders and use BC to make dots on the sides of the cake. To apply the hard ones, I put a small dab of icing on the backside of the hard pearl to act as a glue.
