Hi all,

I am SO new to the whole decorating thing but I wanted to start to really give it a try and have people taste test as well. I am so tired of boxed mixes. any recipes for good old chocolate and good old vanilla cakes would be greatly appreciated. If others have asked for this already sorry to bother you again. Any icing ideas would be great too. Thanks so much

Sue

Hi, Sue, and welcome!!

Have you checked out the recipe tab on top? There are lots of good recipes there, submitted by members and rated by members.

I'm a doctored cake mix person, myself and don't do too much from scratch. I like the consistency I get with the cake mixes. But I never make them by the directions. Most of mine are from the Cake Mix Doctor books or her website www.cakemixdoctor.com

hi Sue,

the Hershey's "Perfectly Chocolate" Chocolate Cake is delicious and very easy to make. i've also heard good things about Toba Garrett's Chocolate Fudge Cake. i haven't made that one myself because the ingredients are a bit pricey.

Toba Garrett's yellow cake is really good as well. I follow the directions exactly and have never had it fail. My husband, who is never afraid to tell me if he doesn't like a cake, really likes this one.
