Yeah I saw her on tv the other night and my jaw dropped! I can't believe how sick she looked compared to just a couple of years ago. I watched her on The Simple Life and she seemed like such a sweet lady.

My mother used to watch PTL show when I was little and I do remember the Bakker planned to build the Heritage USA park - a Disneyland-like Christian park. I was very sad to hear that the park was no longer operated due to Jim's imprisonment and other problems. Here's the link below to check out what's happening to the park. You'll be in for surprise:

Tammy was a sweet lady and inspired us to believe in God, no matter what. God bless her.

Poor thing, she's in a much better place now. It was sooo sad to see her on TV the other night, she looked about 120 yrs old and she was only 65!

At least now she is happy and at peace.

I grew up near the PTL location and went to school for a few years with her daughter. I was amazed at the way she looked, but from what I understand, she had gotten down to 60 lbs due to her illness.

The PTL facility in its heyday was remarkable - and constantly crowded. There was a college, grand hotel, studios, etc. Going there for the lights at Christmas was remarkable. The rise and fall is a fine example of what can happen when you get distracted. On the better hand, it seems most interested parties learned from the experience and have returned to their core beliefs.

honestly....I never really cared for that show. Actually....I could never watch it. They lived in the lap of luxury and seemed to make no qualms about flaunting it to the world. Just didn't sit well with me.
But it is sad when anyone passes on....especially struggling through a sickness the way she did.

God rest her soul....

It's horrible the way she was at the end...

I have a question about the "Christian Park". What in the world is that all about? How can one differentiate a Christian roller-coaster from a non-Christian roller-coaster?
What am I missing?

I was never a PTL follower, HOWEVER, Tammy Faye won my heart on The Simple Life and I enjoyed seeing her Christianity pour over into the show.....it's exactly what the show needed. Honestly, I watched the show to see her! What a wonderful christian witness she was! Rest in peace Tammy.

Heritage USA started as a Christian campground with a lot of faith based and family oriented activities. Then they built an outdoor ampitheater and broadcast some of their shows there with the main studio in Charlotte. Then, (now I might have the chronology off, I was a kid) came a pyramid designed office tyupe building and classrooms for a college of some sort. Then came the olympic swimming pool (at least one olympic swimmer I know trained there). Wtih all of this came shops and a shuttle bus system. Then came the indoor studio where they moved all of their broadcasting. Then began the downfall with a grand hotel and time shares. All the while, there were also limited houses built on teh grounds (I think two or three subdivisions or so). Meanwhile, the community had been aware for some time that something was up. Folks with the ability started buying up all the land surrounding PTL so that they couldn't expand any further. In the mix somewhere was the plans for a small amusement park. It wouldn't be on the same scale as Disney (Carowinds is about two miles away), but it would be on the grounds. Already in the complex was a host of Christian entertainment, but the hotel / time share bit is what really started leading to the end (financially). THe property has since changed hands a number of times. Some people tried to do something with it, others didn't bother. It's prime real estate though.

I always respected Tammy for being a Christian woman that was deeply devout but also a champion for gay and lesbian rights. She was a shining example of true Christian love. She had said she was in pain 100% of the time and I am happy she is at peace.

well I actually sat and viewed and the pics, wow I had no idea it was like that now... thanks for sharing the link. I hope that she does find herself in a better place, she lived a full life and though she looked bad at the end of it she is happier now!

I was never a fan of PTL or the Bakers. For a Christian woman she was very vain. I did watch a special on her on Fox called Death Defying where she let the cameras come in and go through her ordeal with her cancer. She battled it for 10 years. It seemed like she had a descent personality, and was a shame she always appeared to be so fake. I am sure she is at peace now.
