I USE TO ADD RUM TO BY CAKE BATTER AND IT CAME OUT HEAVY.

SOMEONE GAVE ME THIS ADVICE.

BAKE YOUR CAKE - AFTER THE CAKE HAVE COOLED, USE A LONG THIN STICK, I USE A LONG MATCH STICK- TO POKE LONG HOLES INTO THE CAKE.

THEN GENTLY LADDLE YOUR FAVOURITE RUM ONTO THE HOLE.

YUMMY

When I make rum cake the recipes, which is basically a buttermilk pound cake , tells you to pour your rum sauce over a warm cake( no need to poke holes) and the cake absorbs the sauce very nicely.
