Hi Guys! icon_biggrin.gif I'm new to the whole cake baking thing! I need to make a cake for a Wilton class I'm going to, And I want something dense enough to hold up to fondant, or maybe even sturdy enough to carve. Does anyone know any recipe like that, that also taste good?

Go with pound cake. You can make it whatever flavor you like and it is about the sturdiest thing out there.... and also its tasty!

My recipe is equal parts by weight flour, eggs, butter, and sugar plus vanilla to taste.

This one is pretty dense:http://www.cakecentral.com/cake_recipe-1953-0-Super-Enhanced-Cake-Formula.html
I did the chocolate one, it had great flavor and carved nicely.

why don´t you try this: is moist and holds up th fondant

9 eggs separated
1 pound margarine
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk
1 tbs baking powder
2 tbs vanilla extract or any flavor
4 cups flour shifted

1 cream margarine and sugar until is pale in color and fluffy
2. add egg yolks one by one, mix well
3. add flour, baking powder alterning with milk and vanilla
4. beat egg whites and fold into batter.

pan must be greased and flour. bake at 350 F for 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center is clean. It has to be light gold on the top.
The secret is to cream margarine and sugar well, this will help to make a bigger and fluffly cake
If you add almons to the batter you have to reduce the same amount of flour. and change vanilla por almond extract.
