Suggested Icing For Lemon Cake?
Decorating By riveritaly Updated 10 Jul 2007 , 9:20pm by USMC_SGTs_Lady
I don't like lemon cake at all, but I've had a request for one. Is there a particular icing that tastes good with lemon cake? I didn't know if buttercream would be too sweet and there was a better option to go with it. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Kim
I agree with PP, I've used buttercream with lemon and vanilla extracts and it was delicious

The wedding cake in my photos was lemon with lemon filling and BC with almond extract. It was a hit!!! I also have made two others the same way (by popular demand at work)... I did "cut the sweet" with a little salt dissolved in water.
Of course, I don't care for the lemon cake, either, but apparently I must be missing something. Nothing compares to chocolate
Thanks for your suggestions! I know when I am stumped, I can always find some advice on here. To me, cake is supposed to be sweet - not citrusy! I can't stand anything with a lemon flavor. I don't know what's wrong with me because apparently a lot of people like it.
Thanks again for the great suggestions!
If you're going to use a lemony type filling as well, I would suggest not using a PS buttercream. Something like a SMBC or IMBC would work better because they're not as sweet.
i suggest cream cheese frosting also...there is a recipe for a white chocolate cream cheese frosting on wilton that is REALLY good, and its not really white chocolatey...its a very smooth frosting, not too sweet....HTH
