Decorating By andi28 Updated 7 Jul 2007 , 8:38am by gewels19
I cooked my cake for tomarrow, let it cool a little and then I wraped it up and put it in the freezer. It cracked right in the middle, is there any help for it or do I need to bake anothere one. I need help fast please anyone.
Thanks
Andrea
It would depend on how you intend to use the cake. The crack can be glued with icing but I would not use it for the bottom tier of a stacked cake. Also, if you are torting the cake, make sure you turn the crack line on the next layer (perpendicular to other crack line) to make it more sturdy.

I agree with miriel. If it is just a one-tier cake, I would use it. If it is tiered, I would bake another!
I think it depends how big the crack is once you level your cake is it going to be gone? or is it really really deep? I dont ususally level until after it has settled and that usually cuts away any of my cracks..
I became addicted to cakes through working at a bakery part time. When they needed a cake for the next day they would bake it, and ice it with a "crumb coat" and let it sit till they need to decorate it.
When you apply a "crumb coat" (thin layer of icing) It keeps the cake moist untill you need to use it. This should not be done for any longer than about 12-18 hours in advance. This will aslo make a nice base for the outer layer of icing. I would try this before putting any cake in the freezer that I needed the next day!
I know this doesn't answer your problem, but it might help in the future!
Thank you everyone for your reapplies........I think I will just make another cake. Thanks again.....Andrea
Um I have roughly the same problem, except mine is a middle tier for a wedding in 6 hours
