Hi,
I was wanting to flavor crusting buttercream. I have never made it before, so I was wondering, how do you flavor it? I am looking for a kid-friendly flavor(s) to go with a butter cake. Any ideas? Also, if you have a favorite crusting buttercream, which is it? THANKS!!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

just toss in the flavoring as part of the liquid.

most recipes specify some type of flavoring, whether vanilla, artificial butter or other.

I often blend butter, vanilla and almond.

can also do butter and lemon blend

or use a special blend called Creme Bouquet (yummy)

can use any of the flavors found in cake isle or any of the oils made of candy.

the even have a flavoring oil called "bubble gum" -- tho' don't think that would go with your cake flavor -- but then w/ kids you never know!

limited only by imagination and the client's preference

recipe i currently use:

1 cup veg. shortening
1/2 cup butter
(or 3/4 cup each butter and veg. shortening)
1TBS flavoring
1/2 cup water (more or less to adjust stiffness)
9 cups powdered sugar

and if I really want to boost flavor -- I put the extra flavoring in the measuring cup for the water and then add water to get the 1/2 cup.
