Ok, I have looked at the pictures and I want to know what the secret is for making those tools look so real! Are you doing it by hand or using some kind of mold? Please help! I would love to do this for my g'pa but I have no idea where to begin.

Thanks

I made mine by hand but they aren't anything special. Try finding some candy molds and I'm sure you'll like the outcome.

I used cookie cutters to cut the shapes out of fondant on my tool cake (it is in my photos if you want to take a look). Then, I painted them - I mixed gel icing color with lemon extract to paint the "handles" red, and I painted the "silver" with luster dust mixed with the lemon extract. The alcohol content in the lemon extract makes it dry out, so I tried to paint quickly and had to keep adding more lemon extract - but the outcome was pretty good I think! I got these ideas from other people here on CC. I made the tape measure and the "caulking" gun by modeling them after the real items - I didn't have cookie cutters for those. Good luck with yours, I can't wait to see your pictures!
