I am not sure if its a dilemma or not but heres the situation, my sister knows someone who wants me to make a birthday cake for her son. She decided on a 9x13 cake and wanted it a hunters theme. I made a colorflow deer and deer tracks and was all set to bake the cake when my sister called. She said the lady wanted to know how much more it would be to add on 24 cupcakes. I wasnt sure so my sister and I agreed on ten dollars for the cupcakes. I think five dollars would not be enough, but I feel guilty for telling her ten dollars more just for cupcakes. Is this price unreasonable? She is already paying 30$ for the 9x13 cake .. is that price also set to high??

I don't think it's unreasonable at all. 24 cupcakes for $10 is a steal! That is less than $.50 each!!! Some people charge $3-5 EACH for cupcakes!

Absolutely not! I had to re-read the amount of cupcakes she ordered because I feel $10.00 for a dozen is about right.

I think 10.00 for 2 dozen cupcakes is very cheap. That is barely going to cover your cost for supplies.
The price on the cake sounds about right.

No the price for the cake is fine, you are not making a basice cake with a couple of flowers. You made a deer, etc for her design. For the cupcake you should have charge $1 to $1.50 for a basic cupcake with a swirl design. Plus does she want differant colors for the cupcakes that will be more work for you. Cupcake go for $2 for some holiday pick put in them from the grocery store.

Look foward to seeing your final cake.

I think that is MORE than reasonable for the cupcakes. Some people charge $1 each. $30 for the 1/4 sheet cake??? Yeah, I think that is reasonable. You are adding color flow objects. It's not just a plain cake with a border and some flowers. Don't feel guilty. If she didn't like the price she would go elsewhere.

I think $10 is very reasonable. Don't sell your self short...you will have to handle each one of those little babies- whereas with a cake, you do it all at once. Remember....LABOR is what they are paying for. Don't get me wrong, I would not just slap a little icing on either, I would try to coordinate it with the theme of the main cake- more tracks...something like that.

You have to remember that you're pricing not only your goods but your time. And time can be pricely especially for those of us who are perfectionists like myself!
