I'm interested in everyone's "worst guest" stories. Here's mine, if you're interested.
Last week we had a dinner party at our home for 20 of my husband's colleagues who had come into town for a conference. One colleague/friend had his girlfriend and her daughter join him here for a vacation afterwards, and my daughter and I were looking forward to meeting them.
I should explain that I cooked for four days for this dinner, and had three huge trays and a cake delivered (I opted for making my signature chocolate chip cookies). The appetizers included a vast assortment of cheeses, meats, crackers, and breads, also corn chips & guacamole (one of my specialities), a sushi platter (veg and not), and 25 lbs. (on a 24" platter) of fresh in-season cherries, blueberries, three kinds of grapes, strawberries, and local blackberries.
When this woman (the girlfriend) arrived, my husband introduced her to me, and I said, "It's so nice to meet you! I'm glad you could come; I know you are probably tired from travelling all day." Her reply, "Do you have any cream cheese? My daughter can't find anything to eat." She's hold a mini-bagel from the appetizer table. I found some cream cheese for her, but later I saw her going through the refrigerator and pantry, grumbling that's there's nothing for her daughter to eat! There were three other kids at the party who were FEASTING.
I accomodated her the best I could but as hostess I need to visit with other guests, too, and there are constantly things to attend to at a big dinner party. I don't know if she ate something when we had dinner and desserts, because I was extremely busy serving!
A couple of days later they asked if we could recommend a sitter, and since our daughters are the same age and the man is a friend, we offered to take care of the daughter for the evening. We were having soup and sandwiches for dinner, so we told them if the daughter doesn't like that, could they please pick up something she likes to bring with her. (They had a rental car.) For the life of me, I can't figure out what this kid eats.
When they arrived, the woman waltzed past me without a nod or hello (like she had blinders on) and went into the living room. The man gave us a gift of "cuddlefish chips" and "crabmeat cookies" as a joke. I asked if the daughter has had dinner, and I'm told, "She had some fish, so you can serve her dessert." But we don't have dessert on Monday nights! The minute they drive off, the daughter turns to me and says, "I'm HUNGRY!" We were scrambling to find something she would eat. She'd eat only a bite of each thing and complained how she was hungry the whole evening.
I'm glad they've gone back home now. The man is nice, but evidently "hello" and "thank you" are not in the woman's vocabulary.
Cheers, from

I think the worst guests are the ones who don't make their kids clean up the mess they've made while playing.
I understand kids make messes, but I always make my kids help clean up before we leave. I have this one "friend" who always lets her 3 girls run totally amok(and do they ever!!!) and never offers to have them or herself help with the cleanup. She just packs her kids up and goes.
It got to the point that I stopped asking her over....besides my 2 kids are scared to death of her 3. Her kids are just so out of control. I know my kids can be monsters, but I would NEVER let them get away with terrorizing other children, especially in the other kid's house!!
We had a bad houseguest several months ago, she accussed my husband of showing naked pictures of himself to her- which he NEVER, and I repeat NEVER did! (we don't have any of him....)...which really pissed me off because we opened our house to her because she didn't have anyplace to stay, I even took her out to dinner on the way home because I knew she would be hungry. I told her I would help her get a job, and we laid down some rules. Like her underage BF was NOT allowed in our house, and that she was required to go to school, etc etc. I don't think she like our rules...which she could have simply stated no thank you I don't want to stay another night at your house..but no she had to cause a ruckus and lie ![]()
I also hate kids that try to steal your kids toys saying that "but (insert name) said I could have it." ![]()
