icon_smile.gif I have been asked to make dh's gm's 90th bday cake in July.....I want to use some gold color for the scrolls on the sides of the cake.....I have NEVER made gold icing....any ideas? I usually only make colors..but it is a special day and I want to have some gold on the cake. TIA. icon_smile.gif

I would think you could use the gold luster dust with vodka or flavoring to brush on the cake where you'd like it or you could airbrush if you have that set up icon_smile.gif

I just did a cake for my friends 50th birthday and used Gold luster dust mixed with a bit of lemon extract. The cake was covered in fondant with fondant flowers, so it made for easy painting. I also used a very soft brush to dab some gold on the buttercream writing on the cake. It came out better than I anticipated since I've never worked with gold before. I think though it would be better to airbrush buttercream so as not to disturb it. Hope this helps somewhat.
