Heres the deal, right now I have a sunbeam stand mixer, not sure on the watts, but found an ad in the paper for a 1 1/2 yr old kitchen aid for $50, she said her ex paid like $150 for it, she cant find the book so I dont know the watts or anything. I tried MMF for the first time last night and loved it and I am hooked, so I NEED a mixer that is able to stand up to the MMF. I was on sunbeam.com and they have 450 watts for $150. I need to know what you all think, and what has worked for you. Please help ASAP the lady wants to know if I want it or not. Thanks!!
Since you asked for feedback I will tell you honestly that I would not go for it. First of all you don't know what kind of care she took with the machine, you will not have a book and no warranty. Offer her $25 and see if she goes for it. My Sunbeam ran like a champ for 25 years until the day she died so I really got my money's worth out of it. I now have a new KA and don't regret the money I put out for that. Best of luck to you.
My first mixer was a Sunbeam stand mixer (I'm not sure of the wattage). It was great for everyday use, but not for my cake business. I bought my KA and have not had any problems whatsoever! I think. if faced with your choice, I'd purchase the KA for $50.00. I'm thinking that its owner may not enjoy baking, or she would part with her KA!
I agree, if you can afford to lose $50 go for it. You would have to be very hard on a KA mixer to ruin it. Try turning it on before you buy it to make sure it doesn't shake and shimmy or smoke. If it helps you get out enough cakes to pay for itself then you did good. Chances are it will last you a while. I have had mine for approx 4 years and have put it through so much. It still keeps going.
Good luck!
congratulations on your great bargain! I wouldn't part with mine even if my ex(if I had one)did buy it! well...if dh became an ex I might consider using the dough hook to part his hair...but that would be the only partin' goin' on when it comes to my mixers!
WooHoo!! Great deal! I'm glad you went for it.
Enjoy your new KA, I hope you make many beautiful cakes together!
Don't forget to try making your MMF with the dough hook. What a time saver!
That's the one I have, I love it. What a deal you got!! ![]()
well...if dh became an ex I might consider using the dough hook to part his hair...but that would be the only partin' goin' on when it comes to my mixers!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! "Kitchenaide goes Vidal Sassoon on your butt!" (I'm picturing you looking something like Jack Nicholson peeking through the broken down door with that crazed look on his face, holding a mixer.)
Laughing so hard I'm crying!!
Congratulations. That is a really good deal. ![]()
