Okay I am having to do this cake, it's a 8' and 5' rd. She wanted a package cake, but only needs to serve 20.
The colors are celery green and lavender, she actually said to use the colors of the cake show for the purple gallery.
Any ideas? Please? Oh, she always said she didn't want it playful, but simple and sophisticated..?
can still be a package cake...
except the boxes are round.
like hats used to come in.
-------
so...the 8 in could be the box
and the 5 in the hat for example
-------
or
could be two round boxes one atop the other
-----
or could just look like two presents stacked.
both wrapped in same color w/ other color the ribbon and bow
Both cakes will have to round. I need to have a cream bow, she also requsted that. I think one will have to be green the other purple with the cream bow. Do I try and put decorations on it? Or just leave it plain?
riund gift boxes are often decorated with all kinds of pattern -- stripes being a very common one
but circles and dots would be nice too.
might even eork in some cream-colored accents to tie the bow into the cake more
How about a plaid look the celery green on the bottom and fine lines of purple and ivory criss crossing or purple with green lines. Just a thought.
I would just do the boxes in the colors she wants. put on the bows. write the messages (if requested) somewhere on the board. And that would be that.
Think of it as a "Shaker" hatbox cake. No frillies.
Hope that helps.
I would like to make it look like hat boxes, is there a way to create that top, the rim of the lid without using fondant? I have seen cakes using buttercream that have the "lid" look, how do they do it?

would be a second layer of BC piped on top of the base layer.
tho--- fondant will be much smoother and more pronounced as an edge detail.
(personally, I'd rather work w/ fondant any day more so than BC)
I think I'd probably head on over to a scrapbooking place (Michael's, JoAnn's or independent) and mix and match scrapbooking papers and patterns in the colors you want to give you different ideas. It seems to me that this will be a very fun, pretty cake if you let inspiration strike!
Good luck!
