Ok I have never done a flower or a wedding cake....So use to kids cakes...they are so much easier. Ok my friend wants me to make their daughter's wedding cake. They want it to be dogwood flowers. Apparently she saw a cake that had the branches kind of wrapped around the cake with the flowers on the branches. 3-D is what is she said. I have search for this cake picture with no luck and she can't remember where she saw it. I am assuming the branch would be made out of fondant but how would you stick it to parts of the cake so it would not fall off. Does anyone know where a picture of this sort of cake is? Please help.
I made a wedding cake with dogwood flowers, but I didn't put branches on it. It's in my photos. It might give you some ideas.

I saw this the other day and really liked it. I think the branches are chocolate BC, though -- not fondant.

I just went into the CC Gallery and searched for "dogwood" There are several beautiful examples of what you may be looking for. If I knew how to post a link I would do that. But, alas, I'm not quite that computer literate .
Shoot - I just tried to insert the crying face and I can't even do that right - it keeps going to the wrong spot!!
Anyway, HTH Be sure and post a pic when you are done. I'm sure it will be beautiful!!

search for cherry blossom cakes to get lots of beautiful variations on that same theme. The overall look is the same.
Thanks everyone. I so appreciate all your help. I am a nervous wreck. I am so nervous I have made myself sick. Wedding cake.......never done it before. I also have to make a grooms cake and bridal shower cake. Are grooms cakes usually chocolate? I tried a chocolate cake recipe from here and it was so dense it was more like a brownie....I have to try to find a great chocolate cake that can be carved. Any suggestions??? I want the WOW factor on taste.
This is my favorite chocolate cake ever! Make sure to use quaility chocolate for best results! This is also great for carving.

http://www.discountsugarflowers.com/detail.aspx?ID=831This is a source for the dogwood if you don't want to make the flowers. The branching on the cake in the picture is a bit sad.
The Hershey perfectly chocolate chocolate cake and their Black Magic Cake are both excellent chocolate cakes.http://www.hersheys.com/recipes/recipes/detail.asp?id=4754&page=1&per=10&category_id=13
If you don't have the cutter and veiner yet for making the dogwood, this is the set I use from Sunflower Sugar Art: http://globalsugarart.com/product.php?id=19032
It makes a good size flower and the veiner does a good impression on the petals. It comes with instructions on how to make the flower as well.

I think this is maybe where she saw it. I had a bride bring me the photo of their green one and I have copied it several times for different brides in different color combos - some examples are in my gallery. One thing to note is that they call em dogwood but theirs (and consequently mine) have 5 petals on each flower instead of 4. There is nothing scary about doing this cake. I do the vines in royal, let dry, then paint. Attach the flower (made a couple of days ahead) with more royal and you are good to go.
