The figurines are not edible. They are glass, resin, or porcelain. The boxes, however, I can't figure out. I don't think they are edible either. I think the only edibel thing is the sugared almonds within the boxes. Read it and see what you think. I think the word "cake" is only pertaining to the shape of the whole setup! (lika a diaper cake, it's not a cake, just diapers shaped like a cake.)

Yup! There just called "cakes". There just filled with almonds.. Pretty neat though!

Slices of these cakes are little carton boxes containing five sugared almonds and a carton card printed with your data.
These cakes, according to the object fixed upon them, can be used as bonbonniere (favours) for every occasion.

I have discovered your forum from the visitor counter in my web site.
Cakes showed in the site are ours - we make all of them.
And yes, the only edible things are the five sugared almonds we put inside each carton box.
Figurines and objects on boxes are made in resin, glass, crystal, porcelain, glass and so on. For every occasion.

These are a great example of European-style ingenuity. When I was in Italy this past spring I saw similar "cakes". They are very nice!

7yyrt: I get a feeling from your subject line that you are imagining making these cakes but in an edible form. Am I correct? I couldn't even think how to start. The only part I can imagine edible would be the decorations. Buttercream or fondant flowers, figures, etc. Hmmmmm....the wheels are slowly turning.

Wouldn't those be cool in cake shops - for people to take one "slice" home with your business card in it?

hello everyone.

I have seen some of these; at a local store which makes Italian bonbonnieres (the favors given to guests at the wedding, baptism etc). They look even nicer in person. This store had several designs, all beautiful.
If you are really thinking of trying to make a similar edible version... how about this: make a solid cake (pound cake, fruit cake); slice into small wedges & cover each with a thin coat of fondant.
Re-assemble the circle, keeping in mind that the added fondant will make it bigger, leaving a gap in the center. Then attach the ornaments (fondant, porcelain, whatever), with royal icing.
worth trying?
ciao

Thank you for your welcome!
We use several kinds of carton boxes for the cake we sell, as you can see in my web site.
We generally do not sell these carton boxes, but if someone of you want, we could sell what you wish at a really very low cost. Medium boxes for only 0.20 euro, larger boxes for 0,30 euro (plus shipping cost from Italy).
It is about 0.25 US$ and 0.38 US$ each. Many colours available.
Alternatively you could find them on e-Bay, there are many occasions.

I wish show you some video (four till now) I have made on our cakes and put on Google video.
You'll find their links on upper-left page of our italian home page
www.tortebomboniere.com
Each video is about 1 minute long and shows with acceptable quality
the real apparence of cakes.
I hope you'll like them. Thank you for your interest.
Paul

If you wanted this to be edible - it would be really cute as a cupcake cake..... I like the whole layout of it.... but I was just thinking that sometimes cupcake towers look so empty or boring - if you made one like this, I think it would look so cool! Like with the little "trinkets" on each cupcake and then something in the center of the top "tier" ....hmmm wish I had someone that needed some cupcakes...

I've been doing something similar to what you are talking about with mini cupcakes for some time now. Here's a pic. It may be too small to see the deatails, but it is basically decorated mini cupcakes set on stacked pieces of covered styrofoam of different sizes. Thanks! icon_smile.gif
