I've been asked to work on a design for a cake (thankfully I have a while) that somehow combines Marilyn Monroe style, Disney and a little funky. This bride is young but has very definite ideas that she doesn't want a white cake with white frosting (Hallelujah!) I'm glad because my portfolio needs some color! Anyway! I'm thinking something with the pillow cakes but using that only as the top layer. The rest of it I'm uncertain about. I'd love any suggestions from the most creative group of people in the world!

Hmmmm....interesting combination of things!! Right off the top of my head i'm thinking different shaped tiers to give it lots of visual interest. For example, maybe a square or hexegonal shaped bottom, smaller round tier on top and then a larger pillow as the top tier. Maybe do some diamond patterns in cheerful colors....and in some of the diamonds punch out little mickey mouse ears using small circles as punches. It'll be subtle, but give it a bit of disney. You could make some white scrolls and swirls out of gumpaste to simulate the curls in Marilyn Monroe's hair, which would also give the cake a bit of a whimsical appearance. I also think of red....could do the middle small round layer draped with red fondant so it gives it the appearnce of Merilyn Monroe in her red dress getting blown in the wind type thing.

Just brainstorming outloud here!!! I definitely want to see a picture of this final cake!! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks Valerie! I can really see some of that on this cake. I'm just excited to be doing something that's not white cake and white frosting. I'm going to the OSSA show that the theme of this year is The Red Carpet or something like that so I'm holding off doing anything final until after I've gone to that but I will DEFINITELY be using some of your ideas. Thanks again!

What about Betty Boop? She's kind of like Marilyn Monroe! That might be cute.
