I just got to thinking today (as I shelled out another $40) for ink refills...isn't this just watered down food coloring? I saw a guy online that is a pastry chef who makes his own ink. Why can't I do that as well???

Any ideas or anyone who's tried it?

Thanks!

I read about him too. He was using vegetable and fruit extracts/dyes. Not giving away any of his secrets though. His images weren't the quality you see come from inks like Kopykake. He was using them to print edible menus and simple accents for food. I think it'd be difficult to match the color correctly and to make an ink that would flow through the nozzles without clogging or drying out quickly. There's room to experiment though if you have an extra printer/print head and some spare cartridges.

Now this is an interesting thought. I know I've used food coloring for airbrushing.
