I've seen a lot of cakes on CC that have a very faint design behind them on the icing. It almost looks like someone took a paper towel and laid it on there and it left a design...on some cakes this makes it look quite elegant but on others, it just looks like they were trying to cover up edges in the icing. I've heard of the viva thing and am going to try it but on plain cakes with just icing roses around the corners, this could be very pretty...anyone know if designed paper towels is what they are using?
I've used the imprinted paper towels. I thought it looked nice

I'VE BEEN USING THE VIVA TECHNIQUE QUITE OFTEN LATELY. I LOOK FOR DIFFERENT PAPER TOWELS DESIGNS, SO THAT i GET DIFFERENT IMPRINTS. IT'S SO EASY TO DO AND MAKES THE CAKES LOOK NICE.....I HAVE A COUPLE CAKES IN MY GALLERY THAT HAVE THAT TECHNIQUE.

It's 3 borders...flat, ruffle, then shell. Yes, edible images on the sides.
