How Do I Get Something To Have A Chrome Look????

Hello everyone,
First time writing, I'am making a 80th birthday cake that is going to be a semi truck, does anyone have any ideas how to get the look of chrome?? Thanks
Dilute silver luster dust (make sure it's luster not shimmer or cake sparkles) in a clear alcohol (vodka works) or clear vanilla and paint it on with a paint brush.
Make sure to post a pic when you're done, I'd love to see it!
You can use silver luster dust mixed with a little clear vanilla or vodka to "paint" on the chrome parts. It won't be as shiny as chrome, but it will give a silvery metallic finish. Many of the cakes in the gallery have used this.
Here's an example:

Closest to chrome will probably be Nu Silver luster dust painted with vodka or extract.
You will want to use something like luster dust to get the true "chrome" look. Here's a few links that might help you=) Jen
Here is a great link discussing the different dusts and how the work...

I have the perfect answer to this. The tip came from a customer service agent at Creative Cutters in Canada. Mix 2 parts Nu Silver luster dust with 1 part Super Pearl luster dust, mix in enough Everclear or vodka to make the mixture the consistency of latex wall paint or unwhipped cream. It dries a true shny chrome or silver. The same works with gold, mix gold luster dust with super pearl. The addition of the super pearl is what gives you the brilliant shine. Here is a gumpaste shoe I painted with the silver mixture.

i agree with shirley, but if you are using fondant, you could also start off with grey fondant and dry dust on super pearl (you will use far less than if you make a paint) dust. here is a cake i made like that (i hate it so dont laught) but its a good example of what i am sayin' -

ok, so now looking at the picture, it doesnt look as shiny as it did in person, but it works-
Thanks for the great tip, Shirley. Fantastic shoe!
Melysa, your cake made me laugh! Reminds me of the heart and gizzard soup my mom used to make way back when (don't go "eww", it was actually pretty tasty)...fantastic!
Jessiepooh, we're looking forward to seeing your finished cake!
