I am trying to make homemade royal icing to make the tassels to graduation cupcakes...

The recipe on this website is for Wilton's Royal Icing - what is meringue powder and where do I get it?

I am from a small town and do not have, but a Wal-Mart SuperCenter and two grocery stores... Can I get it there? Is it with the cake decorating stuff back in crafts or on the baking isle on the grocery side???

Thank you for your help - I need the cupcakes by tomorrow - Saturday, July 1st!!!

Thank you ahead of time for your time and help...

You can find it in the cake decorating section of Wal-Mart (in the crafts).

Newbie here: what is CK? I hope that I can find it at Wal-Mart - if not what do I use to make the tassels? I do not want to make a big batch of MMF because I am just making 30 tassels for small cupcakes.

Someone suggested me use royal icing... what about the royal icing recipe - egg whites, powdered sugar and lemon juice - will that work - I need it to harden up...

Hopefully, I can just find the Wilton brand at Wal-Mart - thank you for your help agin

I think you may be referring to a company by the name of CK Products.

CK Products is a company that makes food industry items, especially for bakers. I think it's based out of Indiana, but you can find it all over North America.

You can always just substitute egg whites for meringue powder if this is just meant for a bit of decoration.

I don't know if you are familiar with MMF (Marshmallow Fondant) but by pressing fondant thru a garlic press, you get a great looking tassle. OR just pipe buttercream using a tip #1 or #2 to make the tassle

How many egg whites do I use?

Yes, it is strictly for decoration... I made some icing already and forgot to set aside some white before I colored to pink. So, I wanted to have a white tassle because the cupcake is pink and the candymelts (I hope they will become pink - because my Wal-Mart only had white and cocoa) and I am then going to melt the chocolate and dip a graham cracker in the melted chocoalte and then put it on top of the cupcake to make it look like a graduation cap... then I was going to make some tassles out of royal icing (white) and then hopefully I will get something that looks like a graduation hat - will post picture when done...

Thank you all for your help. I do have a Michael's about 45 minutes from my house, but I run a home daycare with 7 kids today so I cannot go and get it. My husband is at work - patrolling the streets here in our town (cop) and was going to get him to grab some so I can make them during nap time and then let them dry.

Thank you all for your help.
