Hi everyone,

I will be visiting downtown Detroit and downtown Toronto (Canada) next week and I was wondering if any of you (perhaps residents or tourists) had any recommendations for must-have tasty desserts (can be anything) there? icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks in advance,

If you are sticking to the downtown core:

I love the chocolate store JS Bonbons (on Queen Street West), desserts are yummy at The Red Tea Box (on Queen Street West too), super yummy treats like tarts and cookies at Senses (on the corner of Yonge Street and Queen Street). Good gelato at Hollywood Gelato (on Bayview Avenue), cute cupcake store called The Cupcake Shoppe (on Bloor at Avenue?)

Go to www.toronto.com for a great resource of all of our restaurants, maps to get there, reviews, etc.

I work in downtown Detroit and don't live far from there.
Here are my suggestions:

In Greektown, they do all sorts of interesting things with their goodies:
Astoria Pastry Shop
541 Monroe St, Detroit
(313) 963-9603

I had dinner here once, it's a really unique place and gets written up for great desserts:
Traffic Jam & Snug Restaurant
511 W Canfield St, Detroit
313-831-9470

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Best for dinner, have had several desserts there. There are a lot of Andiamo's in the MetroDetroit area, I believe that this one is the best BY FAR. Was the first original location, not quite in Detroit, a few miles north.
Trattoria Andiamo
Grosse Pointe Woods
20930 Mack Avenue
Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236
(313) 886-9933

Went here a while back ($$$$$!) but so good!

Steet Georgia Brown.
The website is good, has menus and maps, etc.

PM me if you have any more questions about the area.

A big thing about Toronto is their Ice Wine. Ontario is very reputed for them. It's a dessert wine.

To my opinion...the older the better.

Thank you all for your responses. I'll have to remember your suggestions next time I go to Detroit and/or Toronto (as I'm already back from there). Greektown in Detroit was great. I happened to walk by Astoria and looked inside and simply had to try something. It was hard to choose but I decided to pick something Greek. Bought some Kourabiedes (almond/butter cookies). Out of this world, just melts in your mouth. Also bought some Pecan baskets (pecans in sheets of phyllo with syrup on top).

Thanks again,
