If you are making swirls, I suggest adding gumpaste. Fondant never really dries completely, in my experience. If things are coming out of the cake, I would add the gumpaste. It will dry harder and faster. I'd start now and make extra!

would you do like 50/50 gumpaste, and fondant?

I thought I read somewhere that you could add a tsp of gumtex(?) to make fondant dry quicker?

Yes, definitely add gumpaste. It makes it dry harder and sometimes faster. My last ones I set for 2 days and they were great.

Yes, either making a 50/50 fondant mixture or adding powdered gumtex will help a lot. In fact, fondant never dries very hard where I'm at, so for things that need to be hard, I usually use 100% gumpaste instead.

My daughter's 2nd birthday is June 2! Happy birthday to your little one.
