I had the oportunity to see some rice paper roses over the weekend and I thought they were just beautiful. I think I'd like to learn how to make these.
Where would I find the instuctions and of course where do you find rice paper? Is this a food....or a craft product....please..forgive my ignorance on this one..
TIA, Chrissy
rice paper you can buy in asian food stores (very cheap), they make cold rolls (among other things) from it...
there is also a PAPER product called "rice paper, or onion skin" i wouldn't think this is what you're talking about...
i'm interested too...i have some rice paper in my cupboard to try with
ANY ONE HAVE INSTRUCTIONS?
I don't have instructions but Marsha Winbeckler and also Margaret Hyde both have books on making wafer paper flowers...
Thanks!! I'm looking forward to giving this a try. I LOVE working with gumpaste and could do it all day..... But...I also love learning new things and I want to give this a try.
If you're talking edible, then rice paper and wafer paper are the same thing.
Ingredients: potato starch, water and vegetable oil. You can use it with edible ink printers, food writer pens, food colors and dusts.

OK - i must be talking about a different product - the rice paper i mean is round circles of rice that you soak to get pliable....TOTALLY different i believe!
Maplecakes has a pic in the new upload section with Rice Paper Roses. PM her for assistance. Her roses are beautiful.
JavaJunkieChrissy, leepat and clevercakelady, I just PM'ed you with the instructions from the Margaret Hyde book.
Talk about timely! I just bought some rice paper from the cake store this evening and I have no idea what to do with it. Does anyone know how to make butteflies with it? I don't have a printer with edible ink.
I would love to know how to make flowers with rice paper. Rice paper butterflies are easy and you don't need a printer. Just find some pics of butterflies then put the rice paper over them and trace with food markers and color. Don't let them get too wet from the markers or they will curl. When dry color the other side and let dry. Cut them out and if you want you can brush with luster dust. Then you can use either royal or bttercream to pipe the body then position at whatever angle you think looks best on your cake. Add flower stamens for feelers and you are done. There is a daisy cake in my photos that I has them on it.
miriel, would you mind pm'ing me that info also? thanks so much!

My roses being referred to are NOT rice paper, they are BC. That was a typo that the system won't seem to allow me to correct. Sorry for the confusion. I had never heard of rice paper roses and have no idea how to make them.
