Well, I had a cake due tomorrow. I had my cakes covered in the buttercream. I am sitting at the table roling out my fondant, when the legs under the table just broke out of nowhere, like I am in the freaking twilight zone. Everything weht flying onto the floor. My cakes are in a hundred pieces and I am in tears. I just had to tell the girl whose cake it was that I couldn't make it. The girl was literally in tears. I know I have to get in line behind all of the other cake disaters that I know some of you have had, but I never thought something that crazy would happen. Thanx for hearing me out.

What a shame. I hope it wasn't a wedding.

That really is one of the worst things that can happen to you cake-wise, really sorry you've joined the 'disaster' club.

Were you working on a folding table? sometimes those legs can become unlocked, or if you aren't careful with locking them... Perhaps, if it's one of those cardboard based tables. Maybe the cakes were too heavy for it?

I can't IMAGINE a dining table doing that!

And... is there NO WAY you can get this cake done? that is my WORST fear - I can't do a cake for a paying customer because they COUNT on us!!! I stayed up to 3 am last night and got up at 6 am just to get cupcakes and the cupcake bouquet ready for a yard sale, but since it was benefitting a mom who lost her young husband, I just couldn't say, "I was too tired to get it done." Those two items brought is $46 today out of the $319 we raised!!!

No fortunately it wasn't a wedding it was a birthday. And no it wasn't a folding table it was a glass top with stainless steel legs. My Dh said the welding just gave way. I know the Freaking Twilight Zone. icon_cry.gif

OMG that is scary... did the glass shatter? That could have been more disasterous than just a lost cake!!! Phew!

I am so sorry to hear this... You are right, welcome to the twilight zone. I have never heard of a table (non folding) doing that before....

I am glad you are safe and that you didn't get hurt!

Whoa, that is really weird! (btw hi fellow PA-ian!) I hate that for you! I dread the day I have to cancel a cake order. Especially since I almost always take at least half the payment up front, if not all of it. So if that ever happens to me, I will have to not only say no, but refund money too. Scary!

That's why I'm not taking any cake orders two weeks before my due date and at least two weeks afterwards, I would hate to take an order and then go into labor early and have to cancel.

Anyway.... that is AWFUL. I guess go solid oak next time? icon_sad.gif

Sorry that happened, I always worry about that, when I am working on any table.

Not cake related, but a few years ago I was moving around furniture, china cabinet and stuff, I had emtied on the table all china then moved it back into cabinet. I was moving my table to clean the floor and one of the legs just gave out and luckily there was nothing on it.

But ever since then, when I work on a table and use my rolling pin, I start thinking about that and I stop move some stuff off that I would not want to fall and then continue working. I know my new table cannot do that, 2 pedestal feet, but I just think what if something went wrong!

Again Sorry you had such a bad night.

I guess it's time to go shopping!
Good Luck!

I'm sorry that happened. At least you weren't hurt and I hope the girl understood it wasn't intentional.
