I want to cover a cake to look like an office desk. I have alot of candy clay so I figured I might use it to cover the cake. Has anyone else done this? Doe sit stay soft or get hard like regular candy clay. Any help appreciated.
Thanks
(not a stupid question)
Candy clay is a mixture of candy melts or chocolate and corn syrup. You and roll it like fondant or use it for figures. The texture is chewy. Chocolate clay, also called chocolate plastique, tastes a lot like a tootsie roll.
Candy clay can also be used to make flowers-it makes beautiful roses.
What you can do with FOndant, you can do with Candy Clay... ![]()
Candy Clay is also known as modeling chocolate. The recipe I use is from this site.
14 ounces candy melts
1/3 cup clear Karo corn syrup
melt the chocolate let it cool down but not completely cool then add the corn syrup. I spread it out into a thin layer on plastic wrap and let sit over night. you will have to kneed it before using.I molded a brides maid under my pics out of candy clay. it works alot like fondant but I am liking molding figures much better with the clay.
Yeppers you sure can! I have a couple in them in my photo gallery. For me it sat fairly soft.
I just made a purse cake out of it . It is my one and only photo. i read you can use bark. But doesn't that have nuts in it? is that something else?
I have used the almond bark (both white and chocolate) in place of the melts and it works the same. The flavors are a bit different. (only because melts taste different than bark).
as far as subbing chocolate clay in place of fondant...some instances it works well, others it doesnt. I have found rolling the clay out to drape over , cover and smooth around a large cake is difficult with the clay. It has a different consistancy. Do some experimenting and see if you can make it work.
