I just made a ccc and used an edible image (first time using them) and it's not really melding into the icing. The instructions said that it would only take 20-30 minutes, but it's been about 2 hours and it hasn't done a whole lot. I used crusting bc; could that be it? I'm thinking that there just wasn't enough moisture in the icing so that the image could stick. Do you think it would work if I put it in the freezer for a little bit and then took it out so it could "sweat" a little?

Thanks!

Are you using a frosting sheet or rice paper? When I used rice paper, it never melted into the frosting. Frosting sheets will - eventually. And if it doesn't that's ok too because if it melts too much, mine gets bubbly!

I always spritz a little water on my surface before applying the image. Is it not adhering at all? Perhaps you can try to lift it and do it again?

Did you let the icing crust first? If you a using a frosting sheet (not rice paper), You need to put it on a freshly iced cake, then let it crust and you can smooth after that. If it has already crusted, then, yup, just spray a light mist of water and it should help it meld into the icing.

Like Missy said, it sounds like the icing crusted before you got the frosting sheet on. It needs to be applied before the icing crusts or forms a skin. If you can still easily lift the sheet from the cake, do that and then lay a moist paper towel on the surface of the icing. It will soften it back up. Then reapply the frosting sheet. If you can't remove the frosting sheet, cover the cake tightly with plastic wrap or put it in an airtight container. That will usually get the sheet to soak in. Don't leave it in there more than a few hours though or the sheet may bubble or get really shiny.

Would you be able to still smooth the top of the cake out after you apply the image and the bc crusts? I guess I was just nervous that the image would get messed up if I did it that way; now of course I'm thinking, well duh, of course it won't stick if it has already crusted!

I had already finished the ccc w/ writing and roses, and some of them are partially on the image (I was hoping that the weight of the icing would help the image to stay down) so I couldn't lift it back off. I tightly covered the ccc in saran and taped it to the bottom of the cake board, so hopefully that will be air tight enough! If not, oh well...it's only for my daughter's bday at her preschool class.

Thanks for everyone's help!

When I put my image on, I just lightly run my hands over it, but have enough pressure to help smooth it on the cake. Then when it crusts, I just over it with my viva like I do the rest of the cake.
