Any Polls Out There On Whether You Do This For Fun Or Money?

Has anyone ever done a CC poll to see how many members are in business and how many do this just for fun? I'm really curious, but don't know how to search to see if its been done before.
I'll start. I do it for fun, but SPEND lots of money.LOL.
Both for me too! It's a semi-hobby, but my fiance and I are working on getting a "legit" kitchen set up for me. I run it like a business now, so when it is a full-fledged business, my customers won't have any surprises.
I'm doing it for fun and experience now...hopefully will have business somewhere down the road.
I started for fun. Then I had my daughter and realized if I wanted to start my own business now was the time (I knew I wouldn't when she got older). So, now I do it for fun and money. I rent a kitchen and everything, but this year I am not making (Alot) of money because it's my first year and I don't have all the essentials yet.
By the Way, good question....

Fun. And I truly have fun doing it!! Every once in a while someone will "donate" money to me, since I can't legally sell, but it is just a hobby I picked up when my first son was born, and now I love challenging myself to see what I can do next!!
for me it is 100% fun.. I don't want to deal with anal customers.
I have no time for difficult customers. I don't like chasing them for payments and getting so stressed for so little money.. I make cakes and give them as gifts, wedding or birthdays to friends. That way they cannot complain, since it is free. I know there are some good customers out there. ![]()
I decorate for fun and relaxation. Word of mouth has givien me extra dollars. But I tell anyone who wants to recomend me that they must also tell them I am a hobbyist and may turn them down if I have other plans or more than two cakes for a weekend. When it becomes a job I will quit.
I was an ER/oncology nurse before my son was born. My DH and I agreed we wanted me to be a SAHM, so I "retired" from nursing.
I started out almost 20 years ago making cakes for fun, and it was just fun for several years. When my son was a baby, I began doing cakes for money, but still only if it was fun. I especially love doing cakes for children who are thrilled when they see it! Those big smiles get me every time!
Now I still do it for fun, but sometimes it's not. If a person is ever rude to me, I make sure I am not available to do a cake next time they call. That is one of the joys of being my own boss, I don't EVER have to tolerate bad behavior. I have a very loyal client roster. I have baked for some families since the beginning.
I average around 20 cakes per month. I make enough money so that I can buy gifts for my DH and son with my own money, rather than using a credit card for which my DH pays the bill. I can indulge my flea market and eBay addictions, too.
Being "independently wealthy" (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) is a good thing ![]()
As a hobby. I thought about opening a shop but I couldn't afford all the requirements, with raising 4 kids. Now that I'm retired and on a fixed income, I still can't afford it.
Over the years, I have made a few wedding cakes for friends and was paid for my ingredients & time. I admire others work.
Decorating is a lot of fun for me, but most of the cakes I do now are sold. I'm a stay at home mom, and it gives me extra money for things like my pool membership we just bought! My ten year goal is to have a seperate building behind my house that is a dedicated cake space.
My grandmother owns the only non-grocery store bakery in town and I decorate all the cake orders that come in, but it's definitly not enough to go to the bank with. I could see opening my own shop, in a larger town, someday, but right now, it's just something on the side that I can do. I love it! Who knows maybe one day I'll have a cake shop of my own!!
I do it for the love of it and I have been fortunate enough to have built a great clientelle out of it as well so I also have a little business which gives me my mad money!
I do it because I love it! My extended family was slightly horrified when I told them what I wanted to do...until they found out how much I make for "just a little wedding cake?!" and now they go around bragging as if this was their plan from the beginning
(they pretty much decided I was supposed to be a lawyer). And while I love that I get paid as much as I do, I still give cakes away because I just love to do it!
I started out doing it so I could make my daughters b-day cakes because the lady that was making my cakes was getting a bit pricey then. I mostly do it for fun, but I sell a few here and there and I have a wedding cake coming up in Sept. and possibly one in November.
I do it for fun and R&R. I teach full-time and need something to do to exercise the other side of my brain and prevent academic burn-out. Creativity has never been my strong point, so I'm enjoying the challenge of using that side of my brain! I give my cakes away to those who are kind enough to accept them! Thank God for DH's office!
I started doing cakes in middle school for fun. Now that I'm finished with school and married, I'm trying to do it for money too....my dream, like others is to have a shop behind my home so that I can have a license and brides will trust me to make their cakes.=)
