I've finished my first baby shower cake - in my galery. I'm not happy with the yellow top.....don't know why not....so I'm debating on changing it. What do you think. Is the yellow OK or is it girly?

I don't think it's too girly. Very pastel great baby cake.

Also would like to add I love all your cakes! Very talented!

Nice job on that cake! Yellow is one of the "safe" baby boy colors, so I think you're fine. Plus there is lots of blue also.

thanks spotty dog & razzy. I'm just to .... what's the word I'm looking for.... picky, self doubting, .... or something like that. I've only recently started to do cakes for "strangers"...which makes me nervous.

Thanks for the compliment - your cakes are great! I LOVE the construction cake.

Thanks & I know exactly what you mean about 2nd guessing designs! Drives my DH nuts when I just stand there and stare at a cake with a BLANK look like something is wrong or missing! icon_smile.gif

Whe I delivered it, she said - "Oh my gosh - that's a cake?" She was very happy. Originally she had ordered a cake from the store and cancelled it when she remembered I did cakes. She said the only problem they would have was that no one would want to cut the cake.

I think we often forget - we've seen hundreds of cakes like these here on cc - but most of the people we make cakes for have never seen anything like them. It's funny, every cake I stress and doubt over - the recipient couldn't be happier with! Just goes to show, we are our own worst critics.

Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement.

Thanks heiser73.

By the way, the roses on your first cake posted are awsome. I'm not good with roses at all - that's why you don't see any in my galery.

Yes indeed you are talented! The shower cake looks great! And your Thomas train cake in your gallery is da bomb!!!! You are much too hard on yourself! That by far is the best Thomas Train I have ever seen!!! You would have no clue by the train picture that you had an ounce of trouble with it! Sorry I got off track, yep, Baby cake looking good!!!!

thanks rhondie. I look back now at that Thomas cake and think - "yah, that's good!" But man, that night I was almost in tears and didn't want to deliver it. But as I stated earlier, we are our own worst critics. It can never be as good as it is in your head.
