You could do a doll cake wearing a grass skirt...maybe put that on top of an island cake.

Here's a nice beach/island theme one with instructions...

Here are a lot more ideas...

You could make a very colorful lei on a cake. Use tip 79; I made one of these in a solid yellow color for a cake for Teacher's Appreciation Day.

Use a lily cup, and do a primrose looking flower and add some stamens in the middle?

Maybe use one large artificial flower in the center. You can browse the aisles looking for something tropical.

How about a hibiscus? You could even do this one as a BCT.

oooo!! I LIKE THAT ONE!
I think i may do that!

what do you think of putting it towards the top of the cake.. on a mound of grahm crackers (sand) and blue piping gel around thta for water?
do you get the visual? you think that will look good?

momof3jotynjake, tip 79 is the one you'd use to make an african violet. It kinda makes a cupped/curved design. You use a round tip or a large star tip to pipe in the shape of your lei first, then you begin with the tip 79 and fill in .. it's really really easy to do and if I'd had more time with mine, I would have made some exotic gum paste or fondant to put on the cake .. I just didn't have the time icon_sad.gif

I like Lisa's idea of a hula girl (using the mini wonder mold if you have it) and setting the girl on top of another cake and have it looking like she is on the sand and another section made to look like water

I could see that. For sand I use granulated brown sugar. You can check out how that looks in My Photos on the Island cupcakes. It might be kinda neat too to hot glue a lei from a party supply store around the outside of the cake board.

What about a simple Hawaiian shirt design? You can do a white cake with simple hibiscus designs all around.

I think that party city has some leis for $1.00 ...if you have one around you ...when i did my elvis cake I had to decorate the ladys office also so I went there they had a lot of neat little flwers pins clips, figures........not expensive either.

maybe instead of icing the side smooth you can use a tip to make it look like the skirt around and make the top border look like a leis......
a smal flower cookie cutter might work....
