Please help! I'm after something to hold its shape on cutting and that is made from scratch not using a packet mix as a base. Usually between 10 and 12inches square (my wonderful cake tin can be graded to any size), though I can work out a conversion if a basic size is provided. Needs to be tasty though not too sickly sweet. There must be someone who is hiding their wonderful recipe - please help.

What about a Victoria Sponge? Tastes good, very easy, moist and firm enough to cut.

You can use google to find myriads of recipes for this quick and easy cake.
