Sooo tell me.... Who is going? icon_smile.gif And what demo's are you doing?

I finally signed up this week and have already started making my *wish* shopping list. icon_smile.gif

These are the demo's I've signed up for, and have some more I plan to try to buy extra demo tickets for when I get there...

B-4: Tahitian Sunset (12:00am-1:00pm) - Toni Harman
C-2: Woodland Picnic (2:00pm-3:00pm) - Kelly Lance
F-3: East meets West theme using advanced sugar techniques (1:30pm-2:30pm) - Rosalind Chan
J-3: Gumpaste Garden Flowers (8:00am-9:30am) - Nicholas Lodge
L-1: Willie Bear (10:30am-11:30am) - Ximena Semertegui
N-5: Fairy Flowers (4:00pm-5:00pm) - Norm Davis
P-4: Fondant Impressions in Relief (10:00am-11:00am) - Diane Shavkin
Q-2: A Selection of Gumpaste Flowers (12:00pm-1:00pm) - Vanessa Padyachee

I didn't sign up for any of the hands on as I waited too late and only 3 were left and they weren't anything I really wanted to do so I decided to save my money and spend it somewhere else. Just means I have a little more shopping money. HeHe!!

So come on, tell me who else has plans to go?

I'm gonna buy tickets for the Petit Four and possible the butterfly when I get there along with a few other things. I wanted to do those, but there were a couple of others I wanted to do more.

Wild cards are the ones you buy if he demo is full. If you buy a wild card and someone doesn't show up then they will let you in. But you can buy additional demo's for $5 each, or that is how they have done it in the past.

I'm not exactly sure when we are going. I want to be there by Wed evening but I'm at the mercy of someone else. My parents are going (since there is a casino near by) and are taking my nephew as well. They are going to sight see during the day and I'll have my nephew in the evenings. I'm not sure what day they will plan to come back, but since I am going to do a display they won't be able to leave until I can get it out of the cake room (after 5pm in the past) so we shall see. I'll know more about that when it gets closer to the time.

I paid for my extra demo's already~ I paid for one wildcard because I wanted to see what it would be. I like surprises icon_smile.gif I was talking about the free time I had. Volunteering. I can't remember what that is called. LIGHTBULB... icon_eek.gif MANPOWER!!!! I knew I'd eventually remember icon_lol.gif LMAO!!

I plan on taking a cake too but I haven't made up my mind yet on what to do. I have no idea! I want to do something about LA but then what's there to do but alligators icon_rolleyes.gif LOL icon_smile.gif The good thing is it has to be 6" or larger so IF I want to do a small one I can. Mrs. Gayle fills me in all on the ICES stuff. icon_wink.gif

I want to buy a lot of stuff! A printer is #1 on my list & then an airbrush system. I've been saving money for awhile icon_wink.gif I better go to the ICES website to see what I have to do to bring a cake~ TTYL~

TC, I think I'm going to wait until I get there to sign up for Manpower. I signed up last year, and even though I told the lady my scheduled she put me down to work during most of my demos. I know it's not an easy job and alot to keep up with, but it frustrated me. So instead I gave my time to Fran and the Century Club.

Do not forget to leave yourself shopping time and cake room time. In NO I scheduled so many demo's and helped in Manpower so much I barely had time to do those things.

I have not decided yet what I will be taking for my cake display or how many I will do. icon_smile.gif I've been lucky enough to have several of my tickets drawn in the last two years. One year I did color flow pieces on fondant covered cake circles. You can get as eleborate or simple as you want. You will see everything there from your basic techinques to wonderful, gorgous work.

I am still waiting to find out if I can go or not. i probably won't know for a couple of weeks. I was hoping to sign up as soon as registration was open, but b/c I was inbetween jobs that got put on hold.

Withen the next couple of weeks I have to get another car, so we'll see how much money I have left after that. I am hoping to plan our other vacation right before or right after ICES so I can stop on our way there or back, I mean come on it will be RIght on the way!

Hope you get to go Leily! This Convention has been #1 on my priority list for the year. I can't believe I'm getting to go! I didn't even know what ICES or cake contests were until 3 years ago. I'm sooo excited!! I just hope my bad back can handle 11 hours in a car! I guess I better bring a good pillow~ icon_smile.gif

Oh yeah Texas.. I'm signing up for manpower there too. I have left room for it~ I've got so much to learn & so little time to do it so it will take 2nd place to my classes anyway. I never get lucky so it will be a big surprise IF any of my tickets get pulled. What kind of things have you won? That is sooo cool!!

TC in the past if you brought something you got something. Last year for just bringing a display you got a sample of satin ice and Nic's Gumpaste, and other things. Nothing big, but still nice.

And I'm not super lucky but they have tons of things to give away, so you just never know. They have small things and large things. They are donated items so it will depend on what has been given.

I've seen all different size and kinds of cake dummies some cake pans, cookie cutters, flower cutters, flower formers (the round ones), all kinds of little cutters, textured rolling pin and so on...

Last year I got some like 6 AmeriColors and tons of other stuff. Some of it may be things you will use, some of it maybe things you might not, but they do have some pretty cool stuff. There are a few things that I'm not quite sure what they are, but I do think that either this last year or the year before I ended up with some individual rose petal cutters. Of course I just, in the last couple of months, realised what they are for. icon_smile.gif

We need to plan a get together or something. Just so the ones going can actually meet in person. Always fun to put a face with a screen name. icon_smile.gif

I was looking for this thread yesterday! Glad you brought it back to the top!! Only 19 more days!!!!!!! I'm so excited!!!

Tuggy2 & I were planning a get together but we kinda put it on the backburner. I think maybe we should all just wear something that symbolizes CC so we will notice each other. Can someone do a copy of the CC cake (in the left hand corner) & copy it in this thread? We could all print it out & wear it like a pin during the convention. Just an idea. I'm not that creative. Maybe we can all sit together at the banquet. That will be so fun!!

TXS I know we'll get together! Mac & I are looking forward to it! Oh.. we're flying & staying at the Hilton. We couldn't get Offutt AFB lodging. It was full. So we'll be close!

ONLY 19 MORE DAYS!!!!! thumbs_up.gifparty.gifparty.gifparty.gif You packed yet?? icon_wink.gif

I'm helping a friend man her booth, as she is one of the vendors. So I'll be there, but not as a participant. But I get to check out all the other vendors, plus tour the cake room, too. I'm on a tight budget right now, and my husband would've had a heart attack if I had told him I'd signed up! This way I still get to look around and "people watch".

TC, we are driving up and should be there sometime Wed afternoon/evening. I wanted to be there early enough to get registered on Wed so I didn't have to deal with all that Thrus morning.

Right now the plan is to leave Tues evening and drive a few hours then finish it up the next day. I'll be staying at one of the cansino hotels with my parents.

I'm not planning on going to the banquet, but maybe we can all get together at some other point during it. I guess I'll see you when standing in line at some of the demo's. icon_smile.gif

Please don't remind me how many days left. icon_smile.gif I don't have a set idea for my cake yet. UGH!! I know I have just a few days left to send in th form so I really have to decided soon, atleast on the size of it.

I'm not packed yet, but I have started my shopping list, does that count? HeHe. I'm going to Dallas this weekend for a WMI meeting, so after this weekend is over my mind will be on the convention. In the next two weeks I will be watching my friends baby during the day 5 days a week from like 6:30 to 5:30 and I will have three evening classes to teach. Too bad I won't really get any rest at the convention. HeHe!!

Ooh good I found a post on this! THis year will be my FIRST ICES!!!!! I'm excited, nervous..... I'm staying at the Hilton. Anyone who wants to throw some tips on what to pack or "things I wish I had known on my first trip to ICES", I'd love to hear them! You can PM me if you don't want to add it to this post.

I especially need help with what to wear!!!

Hey Imartsy!! My 1st ICES too!!! thumbs_up.gif Yeah finally someone else from CC is going. Not many members have said anything about going. It's 2 weeks from today!!!!!!! I'm sooo excited!!!

I've spoken to other people who have gone before & they all say dress casual. Jeans, tshirts or comfy shirts, tennis shoes, sandles, capris. Everyone says bring a light jacket or sweater because the rooms are freezing. I am bringing one outfit that's a little dresser then jeans, a pair of pin striped capris & nice shirt for the banquet. I don't want to be under-dressed but don't want to be over-dressed either. I heard last year people were in evening gowns. Too dressy for my blood.

Mac & I are staying at the Hilton too. Are you going with a friend? We'd love to meet you! Hopefully we'll get a chance to meet!

I haven't made a "wish list" yet because I don't know what to wish for! I want everything!! Everyone keeps saying make a wish list or you'll buy too much stuff.

Does anyone have an idea on how to reconize another CC member??? Heath was looking into doing pins but I don't think that ever panned out.
icon_sad.gif Any ideas lets here them thumbs_up.gif

You could do something simple to recognize other CC'ers. Maybe everyone should wear Mardi Gras beads...those are cheap and you could spot them easily. You could also set up a place and time every day to meet. Omaha has a lot of cool places to visit, and it's a very friendly place!

Hey TCTURTLESHELL! Yeah we're both staying in the same place! When are you arriving? Are you going to that "orientation" thing? Hmm we'll have to talk about how to recognize each other - I think last year some people talked about doing t-shirts, but I don't think it happened.... I'd love to be able to recognize people! I'm going all alone so it'd be great to meet up with some friendly faces!! Let me know if you can think of any good way to meet - Mardi Gras beads... hmm I think I might have some of those once..... funny story... it was at KY Derby (well a few days before) and we were at the race track and i just walked up to a guy and said "can I have some beads"? And he just gave them to me - then had a funny look - I think he forgot that you're supposed to get the girls to flash first! LOL Not that I would have!

Here are some tips I posted before: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-28322.html

I would suggest for the first timers to go to the orientation. It gives you information about the convention and may answer questions you have.

This year is my 4th and I love them. They are fun, you get to be around people that love doing the same thing you do and get a chance to learn a lot.

You may want to take a light sweater with you. Last year the demo rooms were freezing.

One thing I will say is keep in mind that everyone you see 'working' at the convention is volunteering and not getting paid for what they are doing. The people doing the demos are doing them because they want to. The people in the demo rooms are people giving up their time and their chance to see things to 'work'.

Sometimes the camera angles at the demo's may not be perfect or wonderful, but keep in mind that those working the cameras are trying their best.

I've seen people get ulgy and rude for no reason to people that are giving their time so that others can enjoy the convention and that really annoys me. I'm not saying anyone here would do it on purpose, but do keep it in mind.

And if you have free time, why not do ManPower and give back. icon_smile.gif

What a great idea!! party.gif I actually bought turtle Mardi Gras beads when I was in New Orleans in April! Ok... IF I don't forget I will bring them & wear them the first day or maybe more then 1 day! thumbs_up.gif If you guys see anyone wearing anything with turtles on it's probably me! icon_lol.gif

Imartsy,
We are supposed to be arriving at 2:40 pm on the Wed 25th. I think we're going to orientation & signing in on Wed too. I'll PM you ok~ You shouldn't be hanging out alone! ~TC~

Hot & humid would be a nice change from rain, rain, & more rain! All it has done in Louisiana this summer is rain. Every day since May we have gotten a big storm, some days it's rained all day. I'm soooo sick of rain!! icon_sad.gif We're gonna need a boat to get out of our driveway if it keeps it up. I can't wait for a change in weather! icon_smile.gif
