I've had a bride approach me with this photo. I'm unsure about the middle tier. I think you can just use circle cookie or fondant cutters for the top and bottom layers (with appropriate cutouts of course). Anybody seen this yet or know how to do it? Suggestions? Thanks yall!

The middle layer is the same as the bottom, just wtih the "circles" turned the other way. They look like ovals put together to make a circle. That's an awesome cake! Who made it?

Yeah.. it looks like a football shaped cutter (an oval with pointed ends). the top tier has two rows of full circles and the football shape over the circles.. the bottom tier just has the football shapes arranged in a circle.. and the middle tier is just the same as the bottom only with the pattern turned a 1/4 turn and a smaller foot ball shape. My guess is fondant covered with fondant cut outs layered on that. the flower doesn't look too difficult either..

I hope that made some semblance of sense.. LOL..

I'm confused (or blind), but the middle tier looks like a square pattern to me...

I made this cake for a bride (using brown instead of green leaves). This is a Kate Sullivan cake. I sent an e-mail to Kate asking about the cake and she responded with how the layers are made. If you go to her website, the cake is posted (larger pictures)

The middle layer are leaves placed in the shape of a square. I think the picture is in a Modern Bride Magazine.

Well they almost look like a leaf cutter too...so you might be able to even make your own. Take a round cutter and push it in to make the oval...simple as pie.... icon_lol.gif

I doubt the decorator used football cutters. It looked like they just used a round cutter. If you look at the top tier the "football" shapes fit perfectly in the circles. I think they just took a circle cutout and then used the edge of the cutter to cut four "footballs".

I have no clue how they did the middle tier.

You guys are the BOMB!!!! I just emailed Kate. Wow!! How cool is that. It will be awesome if she replies. I would love to tell the people I contract through that I've talked with the lady who created it and it won't be any problem to recreate it! I'm so excited!

My eyes maybe fuzzy, but the middle layer looks like it is stamped. The leaves do look like a circle cut out like maryjsgirl said.

Yeah.. I am sure it wasn't a football cutter, but it isn't oval and that was the best description I could come up with at the time. icon_biggrin.gif

It's definitely the circle cutter, then put four cut circles edge to edge 2x2 and then cut out the center, it will give you the "football" shapes. I am intereste on how the square pattern were done? 2 layers of fondant, with two sized sets of squares cut on each layer?

Fondant cutouts build a pattern of leaves and circles, texture upon texture on this Double Wedding Ring Quilt inspired cake. White on white with accents of light apple green on the outside with luscious chocolate on the inside

Looking forward to seeing it when you have made it. I went to Kate Sullivan's website. It looks easy, but time consuming.

I went to the site too.. the fondant is THICK!! On teh top tier alone there is a layer over the cake.. and 2 thick pattern cut out layers and one thin layer to add the green.. that's a LOT of fondant.. LOL.. make sure you work out your jaw muscles when you are going to eat it.. icon_lol.gif
