My FIL is retiring and they want a AirCraft Carrier Cake? Anybody have any ideas???????????????
I haven't been on here in ages... So hey all!
great site for reference diagrams:
the vast majority of the ship, except for that pointy bow, is just a big long rectangular box with a funny jut out (the catapult).
the tower too is just more tiers stacked and carved (and then tons of detail for all the antennas and stuff)
so the main body would be just a big ol' stack of tiers carved to shape and then lots of little toy airplanes all over the top.
can use diagrams for cutting basic shape (top and profile)
the only thing I'd do is cheat and make the front very pointy bow out of styrofoam that has been doweled/glued to cake board instead of cake. -- that undercut wouldn't work in cake.
and of course it's floating on a single layer sheet cake or a fondant/icing covered board for the water.
and one more thing --- if possible get the name of the specific carrier he was on and get photos of it so can make it more of a replica than a generic carrier.
