hello! we have canadian guests coming to stay with us the first weekend of may, and i was wondering if there is anything, baking wise, in canada that is somewhat hard to get here in the u.s. or is unique to you and the culture...i know they wouldn't mind picking me up something. they are from montreal, pq.
any suggestions? thanks a bunch!
cant think of anything. I think that there is more available in the usa than in canada for baking stuff.
Maple syrup. I know you can buy it in the US, but Quebec is known for having the best maple syrup.

I agree. Maple Syrup the good stuff....mmmm...drool....
Hi! Being from Montreal, Quebec, I can agree whole heartedly with the previous posters. You guys definately have a much bigger selection than us here! To be honest I often drive to Plattsburgh, NY so that I can stock up on some of the essentials. It is worth the few hours of driving just to get some of the baking stuff!
The only thing I can think of that someone mentioned that they could't find dragees because of some new law. Now it may be just one state but dragees are very plentiful where I come from.
You may want them to bring you some Crisco shortening I have not seen any of the trans fat free variety here yet. It will be getting harder to come by.
The first thing that popped into my head was poutine!
Then I thought about Crisco - I checked it out the other day and noticed there weren't any changes at the grocery stores yet.
So, I second the crisco idea.
