Hey babe - I've got kids so I have to be a master of PR to get them to eat ANYTHING some days! Making an adult feel less guilt about their drink of choice is a slam dunk....
Now I'm off to mix up a chocolate Marsala cake - OMG this is divine raw or cooked - this one's a little TLC for the school teachers and me - in miserable mid-winter chocolate should be available on prescription!
it says winniemog has the last post #31 and i can't see it...
edited to say -- there it is -- it's kind of fun to be able to make the last post pop up -- when we turn the corner onto the next page in a thread the board plays peekaboo with the first post (#31) on the new page so when you add the next post (#32) it makes the bashful post appear
that sounds delicious winniem -- the marsala cake -- yes i have a few cake batters i'd rather eat than bake -- geez marsala cake sounds divine --
and a question for you -- do you get some special considerations from the family when you have your one and two g&t nights? or do they just give you some nice space -- or do the g&t's make it all better without any other assistance :)
Special consideration? Hmmmm....
Let's just say - these nights are usually the end of a busy week - I have two very special (but quite high maintenance) girls who need a lot of support - so on a Friday or Saturday post-the last cake delivery my girls want to chill - either on the couch with a movie or play together upstairs, leaving mummy propped up by her glass in the kitchen (gosh I sound like an alcoholic - but really it's a happy treat once in a while!)
(Even higher maintenance) husband on a Friday or Saturday is either AT the football or watching it on a screen, so once I've fed them I can just get off my feet and think non-cake thoughts for a few hours. Then of course a few short hours later, I'm up early and working on pieces for next week's orders....
I work from home which sometimes makes things harder but at least it's more flexible for my girls. Less sleep and more stress for me though!
Diet products are bad for you, too bad! They are to blame for the obesity explosion our countries are facing. The effects of sweeteners (and please don't tell me natural sweeteners are better because they are not - look at fructose, for example) are cumulative. Our bodies are not designed to deal with them so they do the only thing they can to protect our tissues: they engulf the offending substances with fat to isolate them. It's been proven.
i live in isolation -- and once you're in you can't never get out -- seems to be a permanent thing you can't eat a regular diet and maintain your weight -- at least i can't and boy have i tried -- i just gained back 15 of the recent 30 i lost -- i'm talking since january -- lost & gained -- again -- le sigh
i think there was too much sweetener in my baby bottle (seriously) and i was born with a raging sweet tooth -- i jonesed most of my childhood -- probably why i love to bake --
I blame the obesity explosion on video games. We grew up chasing horney toads (yes, that's what they're called) and a few jackrabbits through the mesquite. Kids today just roll their eyes at the thought of doing something like that - - out in the SUN and the HEAT????? Are you SERIOUS???????!! And those mesquite thorns HURT!!!! Yeah, and?
when i was a kid and my mom chopped an onion I left the kitchen pronto because it hurt the eyes so bad -- nowadays they've sweetened, changed and gmo'd our food to death -- i think that's killing us too -- sure messed up our honey bees as well --
oranges were very tart back then now they're real sweet too probably all our fruits & veggies have been altered maybe not for the best huh -- tomatoes now travel and ship very well but not so much flavor anymore -- and the non local peaches suck etc.
jg, we had horn toads, large bull frogs and crawdads
My nine year old just "interviewed" me about my childhood for a school project. The funny thing is that my girls still love to climb trees and play outside just as I did - but they are the only ones who do at their school - the other kids are all so scheduled and have so many after-school activities to keep them out of mum's hair and help them get ahead. The crazy thing is that my girls excel academically - even in the absence of all this extra tutoring....amazing what some fresh air, imagination and home-cooked meals will do for a child!
