My First Whimsical And A Scary Teletubby - Please Be Gentle
Decorating By edencakes Updated 19 Apr 2006 , 7:46pm by SarahJane
I got a last-minute order for a whimsical-style cake on Thursday (to pick up today) and decided to take it, even though I work full-time as well and it meant pulling two all-nighters
Anyway, I had never done a whimsical cake, so taking on this order was... some may say 'STUPID', I prefer 'optomistic'
She wanted a gumpaste Teletubby sitting on one of the tiers. The main problem was, the order was so last-minute, the Teletubby barely had time to dry, which meant I was limited on how many attempts I could make. I ended up with a scary Teletubby which bares a striking resemblance to Michael Jackson
I am not completely happy with the overall shape, but I certainly learned a lot in the process! Now if only I could go to bed instead of work
So, what did the person who ordered it think? I think Po looks fine. Your whimsy cake looks awesome though!!!
They haven't come to pick it up yet... I hope they're happy! (come on... you don't see the Michael Jackson resemblance - just a little? Maybe it's all in my sleep-deprived mind )
...LOL....geez, ya got me crackin' up!!! edenscakes, your cake looks great...those teletubbies are scary no matter what ya do...I love your cake and your sense of humor!!!
I see the resemblance in his nose. Well, what nose he has left. LOL!!! Do you have any of the gumpaste left? You could give Po a nose job and add a little to it. I'd leave it alone though - it really looks OK.
Michael Jackson should look as good as that TeleTubby....
nice job!!
OMG I almost spit my coffee out!
I think the teletubby looks great! They are scary in general!
great job.
wanted to try one of these cakes, but still putting it off.
Like ur teletubby, he and MJ should have a ball together.
I think you did a great job especially this being your first and being so rushed! Everything looks so neat and well done. Awesome! Bet the person who ordered it will love it.
That's awesome for your first whimsical!!! And I think teletubbies are pretty scary anyway! I'm not afraid of clowns, but Tubbies, yes! Great job!
Sleep deprivation can lead to hallucinations, y'know...
You're probably OK as long as you don't see Po moondancing around the second-layer cake.
Seriously, great job on the cake, and while I do see your point about MJ/Po, I'm sure your customer will be thrilled! (And WHO KNEW that MJ's complexion was so..so..tubbyish?!)
Your cake looks awesome!
I think you were brave to take a last minute order on a whimsey cake. I am scared to take one even months in advance!
You did a great job!
I was not having the best day and when I read your post I laughed out loud. Thanks......I needed that!
I think you cake looks awesome and the client will be very pleased.
bj
I think it looks great, and I agree with you about the Micheal Jackson resemblance, it's the nose and the big "bunny in the headlights" eyes.
Good job.
Cheers,
Fran
You did great!!! And, for a last minute job...WOW!! You did excellent!
I don't understand how people think they can order a cake like this at the last minute, but people do it all of the time!
Let us know what they think of it......
Hey, the whimsy cake looks awesome!!
I find Teletubbies frightening anyway, so it's not your cake decorating sklls! You've got a talent for figure modeling.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Teletubbies are scary. But they're not anymore frightening then Boohbah!
Hey, thanks guys! She picked it up Saturday morning and seemed really really happy with it - and said she would keep me in mind for all her future cakes!
Hopefully next time she'll give me a little more notice
WOW, looks nice.
I am going to try making my first whimsical cake this Sat, do you mind telling me how to stack the 2nd and 3rd cake; do you use dowels? I am a bit worry whether the cake will last the journey, as I need to send it for my friend's house.
Thanks!!!
