I just recently found this place and thought I would share it with those of you in and near the Triangle Area. Its called North Carolina Paper and its on Main Street in Clayton. (Sorry, they dont have a web site). This place is wonderful! They have a HUGE and I mean HUGE selection of cake and candy decorating supplies. Much much more then Michaels or AC Moore. Lots of different kinds of picks, wedding cake plates, (the clear plastic and the white plastic) all kinds of columns (even those covered with lace!) thousands of tips, even luster dust!! They have candy molds of everything you can think of, and some unusual pans. Their prices are also not too bad, considering a lot of the stuff you may have to order on the internet and pay shipping. The only problem I found is I want to buy everything! hahaha!

They also have gum paste class starting up in April for three saturdays and do teach all the Wilton course. This Gum Paste class is just 20 bucks plus supplies (I didn't think that was bad! I paid 80 for classes at Wake Tech) There phone number is 553-3313

They also have boxes and boards and such, which I have found at lots of other stores, but just encase you need an excuse to go there..grin.

Thanks for the info. Clayton is about 45 minutes away from me. I just might have to check that store out. Any excuse for a shopping trip!! thumbs_up.gif Do you recall if they had cake pans? Magic line?? I got one of those online and it is so much better than the Wilton pans I have but no one in Goldsboro sells the really thick pans.

They had a lot of character pans, that were a little unusual, but they were all Wilton. I haven't found a place in the entire area that has the more professional pans!

My cake decorating instructor told us about this store, and I LOVE it! Just be warned, it's not a place to take your 5 and 1 year old kids along. Unless you really want a massive coronary icon_rolleyes.gif I'll have to call about the gumpaste classes. I've really wanted some help getting started with that.

Thanks for the tip!

Hey to all my North Carolina friends!

Clayton is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours away from, but I think it might just be worth the trip! Thanks for the Tip, I really appreciate it! usaribbon.gif

What about gumpaste supplies like metal flower cutters and veiners? I'm going home to Greensboro next month and according to Mapquest, it's about 2 hours away. I wouldn't mind the drive if they have what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

cheeseball, they carry most wilton stuff, so I think they have all their fondant shaping supplies. They also tend to have stuff Wilton has discontinued. I found the stamens for royal flowers there that W no longer makes. I know they carry the W floral ejector set and rose cutting set. They also had a W orchid cutting set, which I don't believe is made anymore, but if it's the only one left, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT! I'm buying it next time I go hehe.

icon_lol.gif You'll probably get there waaaay before I can; I'm coming from Central America and won't be home before the end of May! When I come home to visit, I bring empty suitcases! Thanks for the answer and I'll have to put them on my list to call.

Thanks so much for posting this. I am in central NC and have only found one cake store -- Crafts, Frames, and Things. They have a lot more than Michaels (which I don't have in my town anyway), but there is so much I still have to order online. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the info on stores in that area. I have a friend who lives in TN, and would not mind the drive if she could find more of what she needs.

As far as professional cake pans, you should try your local restaurant supply stores. Most sell to the general public. I found the one near me sells stainless steel cake pans for less than I pay for the aluminum ones at Michael's, etc. They also carry the 3" deep pans, which I absolutely love.

Southerncake: where is the store you're referring to? About the only place close to me is Ben Franklin in Albemarle and there's a place in Asheboro, but they don't carry much. Oh, yes, and there's Hobby Lobby in Asheboro! I'll have to check and see how far Clayton is from here. Thanks for the info.

I am speaking of places like The Restaurant Store, where I live in Pennsylvania, or in New York City, where I go frequently for supplies and equipment. They sell restaurant supplies and equipment, paper products for restaurant use. Most of these stores sell to the general public, also, not just to the trade.

Check in your Yellow Pages under Restaurant Supplies to see if there are any such businesses near you. If not, ask a local restaurant where they get their equipment from.

Ellen -

I am referring to Crafts, Frames, and Things in Fayetteville. They have a website, but it only shows examples of what they sell and you could probably get directions from there. They have everything Wilton, especially hard to find tips, pans, etc., and a huge selection of wedding toppers. They do sell the bagged fillings and some different kinds of chocolate supplies and cake colors. They also sell American Cake Decorating magazine.

I haven't taken any there, but I know they do offer classes.

Thanks, Amy
