Hi all!
So, I have made all of the fondant peices for my slot machine cake but no idea how to go about the actual cake part! I am assuming it's going to need to have dowels, but how the heck do I make the slot machine shape? I have been trying to figure it out for days! Time to ask the infinite wisdom of the CC folks!
Thanks!!
what kind?
got a pic of what you're trying to do?
(many styles)
simplest would just be a flat slab of cake.
Hi Doug!! Thanks for replying.
OK the one I'm trying to make is a variation on this....

I sent a message to the talented lady who did it but no response...
I love that cake! It's been saved in my favs for a while. I too would like any advice on this cake. My bday is on 7-7-7 this year and I think I"m going to have a huge party! (And make my own cake, of course!)
Hopefully we'll both get some great advice (though I have plenty of time still).
by no means the definitive method...
but here's one possible variation.
nothing but lots of layers stacked.
sort of like a 3 tier stacked cake w/ each tier a different part -- base, mid and top.
I'd make the top 1/2 the width of the bottom and then carve the slant in middle appropriately.
cake boards of course at each major change, w/ dowels -- lots of them
the rounded part on the midsection could be fondant or gumpaste formed over a soup can and allowed to harden.
most of the work on this cake is all the detailing and painting!
HTH
That's what I was scared of!! Lot's of layers!
Wow great demo Doug - that diagram is fab!! You totally rock!
