Do you just cover cardboard rounds with fondant? or is there a trick. Also I see cakes with, it looks like ribbon, around the edge of the board what kind of board/plate are they using? I think it really looks nice and would like to give it a try.. any tips??
You will have to put either buttercream (a thin layer) or piping gel on the board for fondant to stick to. As for the ribbons, when I put them on my boards, I just use 3-4 boards, tape them together and after I wrap the board, I use my hot glue gun to tack the ribbon to the edge.
Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks everyone you have steered me in the right direction.. I am still learning how to get around on this site! Thanks again..
I just finished the Fondant Gumpaste class and a women in there said she sprays her boards with cooking spray instead of piping gel so I tried it yeah it worked.
You can also use a bit of jelly to cover the board before you put the fondant on. As for ribbon on the edge you just pipe a bit of icing around the edge and stick the ribbon to it or again you can use water or make a sugar glue which will also work.
