I was planning to make sugar cookies with royal icing on them with words written on them for a wedding in May. I heard I could make them in advance and store them away until the day. I was wondering what is best to store them. Or if a similar type cookie would be better to make then sugar. I would hate to have to stay up all night baking cookies for the wedding the night before. If you can give any suggestions about storing I'd surely appreciate it. Also is royal icing the best icing to decorate a cookie with so it doesnt smear or go to other cookies like cooties??

You can freeze them fully decorated with wax or parchement paper between the layers. I freeze mine in tupperware to prevent breakage. I've stored them for up to 2 months without any problems.
