i thought i was having terrible allergies yesterday and frosted a cake. then i woke up this morning with a sinus infection (so, needless to say, it's not allergies). i also have to make about 200 mini cupcakes for my open house/cake tasting next week so i can get a head start on all the work, but now i don't know if i should bake, since i'm sick...

do you ever bake or decorate when you are sick? the last thing i want is for people to get sick from my baking...

I am going through that now. I came down with what I thought was a bad cold last week but turned into a major infection in my lungs and airways which all ties in with my asthma. I had an order for today that was placed last month and there was no way I could cancel. I'm not contagious, just don't have any energy and on lots of medication. I got the cake done, it just took me a while as I did it all in stages.

You could always wear a mask and gloves, or just take a day and get lots of sleep/rest and hopefully you will feel up to it to bake the next day.

Hope you feel better.

NO! You should not bake and decorate for other people when you are sick with a possibly contagious illness. IF YOU MUST and can not get out of the project then you should by all means wear a mask over your face. You can get them for pretty cheap in any paint department or you can go to a medical supply place and purchase them as well.

Being a stickler about germs, as a customer I would not want a sick person cooking for me either.

I don't mean to sound like I am ranting and raving on the subject but I really can't stand avoidable germ problems! icon_mad.gif

The chance of spreading a virus (other than hepatitis) through the cake is very slim. Most viruses are spread through airborne droplets such as sneezing. If you wash your hands regularly and wear a mask, it shouldn't be a problem.
