Please!!!!! I have to finish this cake tomorrow nigth and need sugestions about the color for the butter cream to cover the cake, I as thinking mayble blue (dont know the shade) Here's some pic of the work in progress, as you can see the colors are hot pink, orange, yellow to make a Hawaiian theme cake, but Im running short of ideas with the base color for the cake (buttercream) the little flowers are to put randonly around the cakes (sides), will a wave fondant bordel will look ok on the 1st tier? It too much? help!!!!
You have quite a bit of color already, I think I'd leave the actual icing white (or pale beige), like it was sand, and then make your wave an ocean blue.
cute beach "bunny" I agree, I would do a sand colored base with the waves on the side. Be sure to post the finished product.
I like the sand color idea but only if you put the girl on something else because she will blend right in if not.. maybe have her on a towel?
Or if it is two tier like the pic what about doing one tier the blue you want (water) and the top the sand?
I think the wave border would look cute! Also you could add some green, like a grass area or something. it just depends on if you are doing a scene or not.
My first thought was to do it green also but then the water border might not go, unless you just did it on the bottom... I am rambling sorry! HTH
Thanks a lot! I think you are all rigth, The idea of making the cake sand color its just perfect! I love it! Taking also the sugestion of a beach towel, and the weave border in blue! Im so glad I asked for help here! I was going for blue for the entire cake! ughhh!
I also got those long skinny candles, where should I put them? Should I write a message? (Happy 43 birthday Jackye)
I can't wait to see this finished. Your parts are just terrific!
I can't wait to see the finished cake! However I think I would make the bottom tier hot pink and maybe the top orange or lime green. I really like using lots of color.
All in all...the sand color will work fine...but put the lady on a bright colored towel.
Really cute design!
i would put the skinny candles in a group together behind the girl
Why don't you do the bottom tier like the other ladies suggested with rebular buttercram and do the crushed up graham crackers as sand only around the top of the tier where the beach bunny is laying, and then do the top tier the blue you were talking about..that way the beach bunny won't blend into the buttercream color and you'll have the blue to suggest either the ocean, or the sky. also the wave border will still stand out nicely and go with the whole theme. Just an idea. Can't wait to see it when it's finished, it looks great already and it's sitting on cake pans.
Oh, and you could take the candles an put 1 on either side of the beach bunny like "tiki torches" and put the others around the top of the first tier, kind of like a beach louou (excuse the spelling, nothing looks right to me today as far as spelling..golden moment I guess..lol)
Thank you all for your wonderful ideas, I had a mix of them in my mind, and I just had a TERRIBLE day, my little baby (14 months) wasnt feeling good and didnt let go my leg in the whole day, so was king of hard to assemple the cake, He's much better now. I was goint to color the buttercream sand color and at some point saw myself covering the cake in white!!!! I dont realy like this cake, its ok, but the butter cream job is mediocre, not good enough. The person who paid for the cake was super happy and the birthday girl (43) called to thank me for making this cake for her..It went well. But still need a lot of practice with buttercream, I think fondant and mmf its so much easier...
It still turned out so adorably! Great job on your 'bikini babe' and all those great looking flowers!! With your baby under the weather, you did GREAT in a pinch like that!
Thanks, I guess so, my baby was kind of stuck to my left leg crying and pulling the whole time, I did have the chance to concentrate in what I was doing...Its very hard to take cake of the house, the husband and the baby and create, bake and decorate a cake at the same time! Thanks Goodness for all the help we got from here at CC!
That is SO CUTE!!! I think you did a great job, especially considering the circumstances. It's hard to have a little one that isn't feeling good because they always seem to want mommy, and you want to be there for them but you know you have things to get done.
I'd buy it!
Great! Perfect colors!
I actually think you made the right choice using the white. It really makes the bright colors pop. Great job!
Very pretty cake. I remember those days of my little ones hanging on to my leg. Oh, how I miss those days! Cherish every one, they will be grown before you know it. ( sorry, just got a little nostalgic reading our post.) Your cake turned out great.
i think it turned out great. i can relate with the kids hanging on the legs ( twin 5 year olds, a 3 year old and a 1 year old) can't wait for kindergarten! i think your bc looks wonderful, wish i could say fondant was easier- i have a heck of a time covering cakes with it.
