I am starting my business from home and am trying to figure out what start up supplies I should get. So if you had an unlimited budget to get started what things would you buy?
A double oven!! And a geat KA!
mmm... I guess I would build my dream home around my commercial kitchen! unlimited funds, right?
double? TRIPLE ovens. and space for cooling racks. and forget the KA - get a hobart.
but don't listen to me, the stove I want for our new (still in planning phases) house is $36,000 . . . lol
Hmmmm a bigger KA, double ovens, a really nice big dishwasher(I hate clean up!), lots of counterspace and storage space.
Oh and the fondant sheeter would be a dream!!
Did you win the lottery? I am still waiting to win and start a business, but I guess I should buy a ticket first--lol
What is a fondant sheeter???

unlimited funds?? I'd get a studio kitchen like ace of cakes with all the goodies!!!!!! and a masseuese to massage my back, shoulders and arms after a hectic day of caking!!!
I'm also interested in this fondant sheeter. Does it exist?? Could you use it to roll large sheets of cookie dough too? I want one!!
I can't lie if I had unlimited funds I would get a whole new kitchen and everything to go in it...I know I'm greedy, but I know how I want my kitchen built and most houses don't come that way.

CakePro, I'd also wondered if there was such a thing! Thanks for the link!
Ha I wish I could get a new kitchen but I am doing my business from home and I do have a very good sized kitchen and a large island. I already have a 6 qt kitchen aid. Only a single oven but that will do for now. Actually I am getting some funding, long story, so I was hoping for some help on what to ask for. I wish it was unlimited, it's not but it is more than I could afford on my own. So far I have heavy duty cooling racks, air brush and colors, extra bowls and beaters for my mixer(s), a refrigerator, a laptop and edible ink printer and the ink, stuff to make your own molds, luster dusts, icing colors, more tips, pans that I don't have, cake dummies, cake books, gum paste tools, stands for wedding cakes and such. So that's what I have so far in addition to all the stuff I have in my house. I am also trying to get them to pay for me to take the Wilton Mater course and other courses while I am there and some classes at the local community college. Thanks for all your answers.
I can't think of the name of it now, but that heavy duty cake leveler. Oh wait...it's called and AGBAY I think.
It is super duper cool and levels and tortes a cake in about 2 secs. I think it is in the $200 range....
I would ask also for a class or 10 with Nicholas lodge in Norcross GA.
Good luck,
Julia
Both a Hobart and KA mixer. Hobarts just dont work for small amounts.
A very large marble topped island and if possible a refridgeration system underneath to chill the marble for pastries.
Triple ovens and a bakers rack.
Walk in cooler.
Several trollies for wheeling stuff around.
About a billion piping bags, couplers, and tips.
Laptop
I could go on and on and on.....
okay, so I am being noisy, but who is "them" giving you money? a business loan? just wondering
I would get on e-bay and find a huge mixer. I have a hobart mixer, and it is huge...weighs like 300 pounds and is about 4 ft. tall. I can mix all the frosting I need for a wedding cake at once!!! no kidding. then I use my 5 qt. mixer for smaller batches of stuff.
good luck!

If I had unlimited funds I would get someone to clean up my mess anytime after I'm done with a cake
I don't even know where to FREAKIN start
AMEN To that!!!!
Ah to have unlimited funds....
ok, I'm not there, so the top of my list is a new refigerator (being delivered tomorrow.) Yeah!!!
A printer with edible ink, frosting sheets & extra cartridges.
An airbrush & a supply of colors.
A completed website....
I don't have unlimited funds but...I already have a kitchenaid mixer 6 qt pro. Lots of pans and the basic stuff. So far my list I have made up is quite long but I am wondering if there is stuff I am overlooking or missing. I don't have the space or funds to do any remodeling or anything like that. I do have a large kitchen with an island for work area. I have a 2 car garage that can help with the storage and my dining room serves as my office/sitting type area. I have the CK catalog and have gone through the pages and marked lots of stuff and have a 20 qt mixer, refrigerator, computer, edible ink printer, air brush and colors. Just anything you would think to be important for someone starting their own business.
