It seems that there will be alot of "boxes of chocolate" cakes in this contest. I hope that nobody will be upset about that, because that is exactly what I have been planning to do for this contest for over a month now. My cake will not be made until next weekend, but I have seen at least 2 boxes of chocolates added to the contest gallery already.

I remember awhile back, in the purple contest there was some people upset because they thought that somebody copied their idea.

I was just wanting to make a comment on this before I posted my cake. I have been planning this cake for well over a month. Mine will be look different than the others, but generally the same idea.

What is your opinion?

Different but the same! Good for you! Consider it noted and I'll vouch for you when the claws come out!

I just looked at all the pics in the contest a "all" that I saw was one box cake of chocolates. There are 2 other cakes that have chocolates on them but they aren't made to look like a box.
Considering there is only one, I think to have another would be ok. I'm sure they will still be different.

I'm fine with it as long as you are sure to credit chocolate makers the world over (who are probably squabbling over who first invented the heart shaped box of candy as we speak--haha), cows for giving their milk, farmers who raised the cows, truckers for delivering supplies to the store so you can make your cake, the teamsters who drive the trucks, hens for their eggs, and whoever discovered fire. If you do not credit every person who helped inspire you with this cake, well....I think we know what will happen here.

Oh, and happy baking!

edited to add: a very tongue in cheek response because I know you have selflessly shared MUCH advice and provided all kinds of inspiration on this forum. I, for one, am grateful that most of the members here are like you!

Here is my opinion and it is just what I would do if I was entering a contest where some pictures were already up for view.
Even if that was what I had been planning for a long time, I would re-think the contest theme and come up with something different as the day approached when I was going to enter my submission. Mainly because I think the odds are better for all involved if their entries are unique and if it was important to me to win the contest, that is what I would want to do. But also because I would think that that idea had already been entered, why not go for something different. But then, I don't often make the same cake twice either and I don't often do a take on something that is popular at the moment.
I would also be entering close to the closing date to try to avoid coming up against similar entries.
But we are all different, this is just me and you asked for opinions. I am not even sure if I qualify to have an opinion since I do not enter pictures in the gallery here but refer people to pictures on another site. I do believe that is interpreted as not wanting to share pictures, which is not the case.

I say go for it! I've already made a box of chocolates too.....let's face it, there's only so many ideas for valentine's. Was anyone upset when there were multiple Christmas trees in the Christmas contest? Just have at it!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I'd say go for it too! It's not like it's for $10,000 dollars and it's a Valentine theme for heaven's sake. What says Valentine more than chocolate, hearts and flowers! Some people on this site are sensitive to the point of being rediculious! Can't wait for the 4th of July contest - "sorry, I already used red, white and blue" or "I already made a flag". This is supposed to be a FRIENDLY contest between FRIENDS. Let's keep it that way! It's getting to the point that the posts that get the most exposure here are the arguments. That's just not right! There are too many good, sharing people and great ideas here to lose site of why most of us come here in the first place. Let's get back to the sharing, caring group that we are and stop the squabbling over the little things!

I totally agree that the site is about sharing, whether that is ideas or opinions. What would be really nice, is if this could be done in such a manner as to not involve sarcasm or belittling or being condescending, just voicing an opinion that does not ridicule others that do not share that opinion. Not trying to goad people into reacting, now that would be nice.
