thanks

I looked at the thread and the cake looks so much bigger in the pictures for it to only be a half ball pan... how many does that serve?
and what are the measurements??

A full ball pan serves 12.

Am I the ONLY person grossed out by cutting into a real looking pregnant belly? ewwww.... I can't do cakes that look like babies or preggo tummies... not even big on animals! Just seems wrong, for some reason! icon_lol.gif

when i did the cake (3 times) the mom took the belly off.

mandy, my cake was a 12 inch square and the belly was half a ball pan.. on my latest one, I even shaved down the belly some

Oh, I completely agree with berryblondeboys...I CANNOT cut into anything that looks like a baby or a pregnant belly!!! Animals gross me out a little, too, but not NEARLY as much as the other two!

yah I think it is a good idea to put the belly on top of a sheet cake

I just did a practice belly cake two nights ago. I didn't want to cut into it either, but not for reasons of it looking like a belly. I just didn't want to mess it up! And it was only for practice! But, eventually, we had to do an emergency c-section and cut into it! I actually had the thought of sticking a little tiny baby doll (without hair of course) inside the cake before icing it....so when you cut into it....voila! A baby is there!
That's probably crossing a line though!
Anyway mcassada....the one I made, I just used two 8 inch round pans. One pan I used for the belly (just worked with the natural curve in the cake instead of leveling it. The other pan I used to cut out and carve the boobs. I didn't havean egg or ball shaped pan and really wanted to practice it. When I do it next month for real, I'll probably still used the round pans.
You can check out my photos for it, if you'd like.
Also...didi5 gave me some helpful instuctions. I'll pass them along to you in a pm.

The thing that freaks me out is the part above the belly-I think the gals at church would love this for a baby shower but how do you serve that wonderful little old lady a piece of ....? icon_lol.gif

I agree! I wanted to try making one, but instead opted to do a tiny fondant version on top of a cake, that way no one gets offended.
