I made some royal icing. I was making letters. The icing comes out fine, but with in mins. It's starts to spread and you can't read the letters. Do I add more sugar? TIA

Yes it sounds like you need to add more powdered sugar icon_smile.gif

It sounds to me like there is grease somewhere along the line. I've had the same thing happen and the only thing I didn't soak in vinegar was the tips. There was apparently grease in the tips and when it would go through, it would "melt" soon after piping. I soak everything in a vinegar-water mix for a few minutes now and haven't had a problem.

Outline your letters first using a stiff royal icing. Use a thinner version to flood in. Dry under a reading lamp for 10 mins. Then allow to dry slowly overnight. You should then get beautiful glossy clear letters

If your icing is too thin it will 'melt' like that, but it is usually too thin going in the bag and you will feel it.

If it feel right, thick before you put it in the bag then comes out differently there is something wrong with it. It could be grease like was suggested. Also if you don't mix it long enough it can do that. You should always mix it for 7-10 mins until it is no longer shiny and has a matte appearance.
